11/10 sunrise spot. And the best part? The Drakensberg is absolutely filled with them😮‍💨

There’s something pretty special about waking up high in the mountains, crawling out of your tent and watching the first bit of sunlight slowly creep across the escarpment.

No alarm clock needed. Well, technically there is, because sunrise doesn’t particularly care whether you’ve had enough sleep😂

But when you’re standing at 3,000m, coffee in hand, watching the valleys light up beneath you, suddenly that ridiculous wakeup time seems like a fantastic idea.

And that’s one of the things we love most about the Drakensberg. You could spend a lifetime exploring these mountains and still find another spectacular spot to watch the sun come up.

Some mornings you’re treated to golden cliffs and endless views. Other mornings the valleys are completely swallowed by clouds, leaving you standing above a sea of white ⛰️

And occasionally you wake up to absolutely nothing but mist and wonder why you left your sleeping bag.

But when the mountains put on a show, they really know how to deliver.

So here’s a little reminder to get outside, climb a mountain, spend a night under the stars and catch a sunrise somewhere ridiculous.

Trust us, it’s worth getting out of bed for.

This feeling… there’s really nothing quite like it

There’s something incredibly special about spending time in nature especially somewhere as spectacular as the Drakensberg ⛰️

The massive mountains, the fresh air, the quiet mornings, the ridiculous views and those little moments where you stop walking, look around and realise just how lucky you are to be standing there.

We spend a pretty unreasonable amount of time wandering around these mountains and somehow the feeling never gets old.

Sure there are days when the weather is miserable, the backpacks feel twice as heavy as they should and we’ve spent eight hours walking uphill for what seems like absolutely no reason.

But then you get moments like this and suddenly every bit of effort feels worth it.

We’re incredibly fortunate that we get to spend so much of our lives doing what we love, exploring these wild places and sharing them with people from all walks of life.

And perhaps that’s the best part of Soul Adventures. It’s not just about reaching summits, covering kilometres or ticking off another hiking route. It’s about the experiences, the people we meet and those moments that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.

Nature really is something special.

Here’s to many more days spent doing what we love, preferably somewhere in the mountains with a coffee in hand and absolutely no idea what day of the week it is.

Waking up on top of a mountain at 3,000m is something else entirely ⛰️

I mean here we are watching Tugela Falls plunge nearly 1,000m down the Amphitheatre with an enormous sea of clouds sitting below us as the first bit of sunlight makes its way across the escarpment😮‍💨

Not exactly your average Tuesday morning.

There’s something pretty special about spending a night up here. You go to sleep surrounded by mountains, wake up before sunrise, crawl out of your tent, make yourself a coffee and wander over to one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Drakensberg.

And every now and then the weather decides to put on a show like this. Cloud inversions are one of our favourite things to witness in the mountains. Watching the valleys disappear beneath a blanket of clouds while you’re standing above it all is a pretty surreal experience 🥾

Of course, there are also mornings when you wake up inside the cloud and can’t see more than 20 metres in front of you. The Drakensberg does enjoy keeping things interesting.

But when everything comes together, there’s really nothing quite like it. Fancy waking up to views like this?

A few photos from this weekend’s adventure up to Tugela Falls and what a lekker weekend it turned out to be ⛰️

An epic crew, some seriously good weather and another couple of days spent wandering around one of our favourite parts of the Drakensberg.

We had the usual combination of massive Amphitheatre views, chain ladders, plenty of uphill and the occasional questionable statement of “we’re almost there” from the guide😂

And with summer slowly making its way back into the mountains, it’s pretty exciting seeing the landscape starting to turn green again. There’s something special about this time of year in the Berg, with the waterfalls coming back to life and the possibility of some spectacular cloud inversions😮‍💨

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us this weekend. It’s always a pleasure sharing these mountains with such a great group of people, especially when the weather decides to cooperate.

We’ve spent more weekends at Tugela Falls this year than we can count and somehow we’re still just as excited every time we head back.

A few photos from our most recent Drakensberg Grand Traverse and what an adventure this one turned out to be.

Days spent wandering across the high escarpment, massive valleys stretching out in every direction, ridiculous sunrises, remote campsites and more kilometres than most reasonable people would voluntarily walk on holiday 😮‍💨

There’s something pretty special about spending this much time in the mountains. After a few days, life becomes wonderfully simple. Wake up, make coffee, pack up camp, walk an unreasonable distance, find somewhere spectacular to sleep and repeat.

Of course, there’s also the occasional moment where your legs stop cooperating, your backpack feels suspiciously heavier than it did yesterday, and someone asks how much further we have to go 🥾

The answer, naturally, is always “almost there.”

A massive thank you to everyone who joined us on this latest adventure. It was an incredible experience with a seriously strong group and we’re already looking forward to heading back out.
