This past week we stood on the highest point in South Africa, Mafadi at 3450m

Now truthfully… Mafadi itself isn’t exactly the prettiest peak in the Drakensberg 😂 but the journey getting there? Absolutely unreal. Long mountain days, massive escarpment views, freezing mornings, endless valleys, and the kind of hiking that leaves your legs cooked but your soul happy 🥾

We lucked out with seriously good weather too. Clear skies almost the entire trip, good vibes in camp every night, and a crew that fully bought into the chaos from day one. The only thing slightly unstable the entire hike was the quality of the dad jokes 🤣 And now we’re already planning the next big mission 👀

Our upcoming 5-day circuit will summit the 3 highest peaks in South Africa, ascending via Gray’s Pass and descending down Judge Pass. It’s going to be a proper adventure and definitely not one for weak legs. Dates are 23rd-27th September.

We sort out the gear, meals, permits, and all the logistics.
You just bring the stoke and a willingness to suffer slightly for world-class views.

The Drakensberg really does have something for everybody😎

Short hikes, long hikes, easy walks, absolute sufferfests… fit, unfit, mildly questionable cardio levels, there’s a trail out here with your name on it 🥾 One minute you’re cruising through green valleys next to rivers, the next you’re crawling up a pass wondering why mountains are so unnecessarily vertical 😂

That’s the beauty of the Berg though. It’s basically one giant outdoor playground that somehow never gets old. Endless valleys, towering cliffs, caves, waterfalls, escarpment edges… and we somehow get to call this our office. Not a bad way to spend the work week 😌

We’re currently on the final day of our Mafadi mission and honestly… what a blast it’s been ⛰️😮‍💨

Now, the mountains did decide to keep things interesting. Due to flooding around Injisuthi, we had to shift plans over to the Giants Castle side instead. Slightly less of the original “sufferfest circuit” we had planned… but let’s be honest, waking up in Bannerman Hut instead of freezing ourselves into another dimension at Centenary Hut has felt borderline luxurious 😂🥾

Although we couldn’t do the full route we originally had in mind, it’s still been unreal just being back out in the mountains. Big days, massive views, tired legs, and the kind of mountain chaos that somehow always turns into good memories.

And speaking of chaos…
From 23–27 September we’ll be running a 5-day circuit summiting the 3 highest peaks in South Africa 👀

It’s going to be a proper adventure and definitely not one to miss if you’re looking for something big in the Drakensberg.

A lil recap from this past weekend’s mission up to Tugela Falls.

Day one was basically us walking through mist the entire time. No views, just vibes and blind optimism 🥾😂 The mountains really kept us humble for most of the day while everyone kept saying “it’ll clear later”… famous last words.

But then day two arrived and suddenly the Amphitheatre decided to show off 🌄 Clear skies, golden light, and a full ocean of clouds sitting below us like something out of a dream. The kind of morning that makes you forget your tent tried to flap itself into another province the night before.

Honestly, spending a night up here is something everybody should experience at least once.

Keen to join us sometime? Get in touch at [email protected] and come see what the hype is about.

If you haven’t done the chain ladders yet… you probably should ⛰️

Bolted into the side of the cliff at Sentinel Peak, these two sets of iron ladders are basically the gateway to the high escarpment of the Drakensberg 🥾

The first ladder stands at roughly 24m high, followed by another spicy little 12m section just to make sure your legs and confidence are fully awake 😂

And somehow… this is still considered the easy approach to the top.

We’ve seen people cruise up them like it’s nothing, and we’ve seen people suddenly discover religion halfway up 😌 But once you top out and those escarpment views hit you? Absolutely worth every shaky step.

So be honest…
Would you dare to climb them? 👀
