When – 2- 4 October 2026 ( Friday-Saturday- Sunday)
Where: Waterfront, Hermanus

Known as the only Eco-Marine festival globally, this is the largest whale festival in Africa. It commemorates the arrival of Southern Right Whales and The SEA AROUND US.
Visitors flock to the renowned cliff paths for prime land-based viewing while enjoying street parades, live music, and eco-exhibits, food, arts & crafts & families join the fun run.

Southern Right Whales have arrived in Walker Bay, delighting visitors with incredible sightings along our coastline. Whale season is officially underway, making this the perfect time to visit the whale capital of South Africa.

The countdown is also on for the Hermanus Whale Festival, taking place from 2-4 October 2026. Expect a weekend filled with whale-themed activities, live entertainment, local food, family fun, and the chance to witness these magnificent marine giants in their natural environment.

• The Origin: Antarctica's freezing depths.
• The Mission: A journey of thousands of kilometers to mate and calve in our sheltered bays.

The Genesis Cycle
• Incubation: 12 months
• The New Generation: Born into our bays already stretching 4 to 6 meters long.
The Survival Metric: Once hunted to the absolute edge of existence, they are rewriting their own ending. The shadow is lifting at a rate of 7% per annum—the maximum speed allowed by nature.

🐋 They’re back… and the magic of whale season has officially begun in Hermanus!

The Southern Right Whales of the 2026 season have arrived along our coastline — a sure sign that winter in Walker Bay is about to become something spectacular. 🌊

This incredible moment was captured by Martin from the cliffs at Dreunkrans, where these gentle giants have once again returned to our shores. Soon, mothers and calves will fill the bay, and the world-famous whale watching season will be in full swing.
