🐋 They’re back… and the magic of whale season has officially begun in Hermanus!

The Southern Right Whales of the 2026 season have arrived along our coastline — a sure sign that winter in Walker Bay is about to become something spectacular. 🌊

This incredible moment was captured by Martin from the cliffs at Dreunkrans, where these gentle giants have once again returned to our shores. Soon, mothers and calves will fill the bay, and the world-famous whale watching season will be in full swing.

Penguin Baby Boom 2025!
It’s that time of year on Dyer Island—adult African Penguins are moulting and can’t feed their chicks, leaving them vulnerable. Since last week, 32 chicks have been safely brought to the African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary for care.
Feeding and raising these little “ocean honey badgers” is no small task; it costs over R21,000 per week just for food! Every rescued chick counts as African Penguin populations are now only 2.5% of what they were 80 years ago.
