⚠️ Poorly maintained or neglected surroundings
⚠️ Facilities or amenities not working as advertised
⚠️ Questionable cleanliness or lack of TLC
⚠️ Difficult, unsafe or badly maintained access roads
⚠️ Little to see or do in the surrounding area
Don’t let a beautiful photo make you overlook the red flags. A little research beforehand can save you from a disappointing — or even unsafe — getaway.

⚠️ A LITTLE TRAVEL TIP — DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU BOOK! ⚠️
When choosing a guesthouse, lodge, restaurant or other establishment, don’t just look at the beautiful photos and glowing reviews. Take a good look at their social media too.
If an establishment hasn’t posted or updated its social media for many months — or even a year or more — consider it a potential red flag. 🚩
While it certainly doesn’t always mean there’s a problem, a long period of silence can sometimes indicate that the establishment has become tired, neglected or simply isn’t receiving the same level of TLC, attention to detail and personal care that it once did.
Ask yourself: 🌿 Is the property still well maintained and clean?
🛏️ Are the rooms and facilities as advertised?
🔧 Is everything actually in working order?
✨ Are those special personal touches still there?
📸 Do the current photos reflect what you’re likely to find today?
And don’t forget to investigate the location itself.
🛣️ Check the condition and safety of the roads leading there — especially if you’re travelling in a normal car or camper.
📍 Look at exactly where the establishment is situated, rather than relying solely on its description.
🚗 Consider whether the route is suitable for your vehicle and the current weather conditions.
🌄 And most importantly, check what there actually is to see, explore and experience in the surrounding area.
A beautiful website or even booking portal page doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story.
Do your research. Check RECENT reviews. Look at RECENT social media activity. Check the road and location. Ask questions.
Because sometimes the difference between an unforgettable getaway and a disappointing one is simply doing a little homework before you book. ❤️
