🐘🦏 Why do elephants and rhinos LOVE mud? It’s not just for fun!

Ever wondered why elephants and rhinos spend so much time wallowing in mud? That muddy coat is actually one of nature’s smartest survival tools!

☀️ Mud is nature’s sunscreen
Both elephants and rhinos have sensitive skin, and a layer of mud helps protect them from the harsh African sun.

🪰 It’s their natural insect repellent
Mud helps keep biting flies, ticks and irritating insects away. When the mud dries and flakes off, many unwanted hitchhikers go with it!

🌡️ Their own cooling system
Unlike humans, elephants and rhinos don’t sweat to cool down. A muddy wallow helps regulate body temperature — nature’s version of air conditioning!

💆 A safari spa treatment
As dried mud falls away, it removes dead skin and dirt, helping to keep skin healthy.

🦏 Rhinos love a good roll!
Rhinos often roll from side to side to coat every inch of their bodies — and they sometimes look very pleased with themselves afterwards!
