Andy Sussens — A Life in the Wild

My name is Andy Sussens, founder and co-owner of Bona Tau Tours & Safaris — but before it was a business, the wild was simply my home and my passion.

I have been connected to the African bush since I was five years old. I am proud to be part of a fifth-generation family legacy in the wild, carrying forward a love and respect for nature that has been passed down through generations.

From as young as 10 years old, I was already walking in the bush with guests, learning from the animals and the land. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with and handling four of the Big Five, experiences that have shaped my life and my understanding of Africa.

For me, guiding has never been a job. It is a passion, a way of life and a calling. Every sunrise, every track in the sand, every animal encounter and every sundowner in the bush is another reason to be grateful for this incredible life.

I am also a proud husband, father and grandfather. I have two wonderful children and a wife whom I met 30 years ago on a game drive — another beautiful part of my story that began in the bush.

Today, I am still doing what I love, working and guiding in the very reserve where so much of my journey began. I love sharing Africa with guests from around the world and giving them an experience they will remember for a lifetime.

Above everything, I am a child of God and a pastor. I consider myself truly blessed to live a life surrounded by nature, family and faith. My desire is to use the gifts God has given me, to care for His creation, serve others and do His will.

This is more than my work.

You’ll depart in the late afternoon and head into the beautiful private reserve with its open plains and dense bushveld.
