The African bush has a way of reminding you to slow down.

As the sun dipped below the horizon and the sky was painted in shades of gold and orange, we were treated to an unforgettable sight. One by one, a herd of elephants emerged from the bush to drink at the dam, their reflections shimmering in the last light of the day.

There is something incredibly peaceful about watching these gentle giants gather at the water's edge. No rush, no noise—just the sounds of nature and a moment we'll never forget.

🌅 A day in the life of a wild dog conservationist

The alarm goes off long before sunrise.

Coffee is poured. Telemetry equipment is checked. The bush is still dark.

Then the search begins.

Following faint signals across the Greater Kruger, reading tracks in the sand, listening for alarm calls, and piecing together the story of where the pack travelled overnight.

Some days the dogs are found quickly. Other days require patience, teamwork and a little detective work.

That's the reality of conservation.

No script. No guarantees. Just dedicated people working every day to protect one of Africa's most remarkable predators.

And for one day, our guests get to be part of that story.

🐘 FUN FACT FRIDAY 🐘
Meet Half Trunk — a big Greater Kruger bull who lost part of his trunk to a snare, but never lost his place in this ecosystem.
Elephants are extraordinarily adaptable. A shortened trunk means relearning how to grip, drink, and forage — smaller bites, different angles, more patience at the waterhole. Half Trunk has done exactly that. Years on, he's still a healthy, thriving bull moving through Pridelands like nothing ever happened.
He's also a living reminder of why our anti-snaring and monitoring work with EWT matters. Every snare found before an elephant finds it is a story that doesn't end like this one — one that could have gone very differently.
