One morning. A thousand wild moments. 🐾🌿

Our morning drive with our guest was a beautiful reminder that no two safaris are ever the same.

We started with lions climbing trees, followed by rhinos, giraffes, klipspringers, impalas and a tiny steenbok. 🦁🦏🦒 We watched a herd of buffalo moving through the bush and elephants gathering at the watering hole. 🐘

The birdlife was just as spectacular, with a tawny eagle, a lilac-breasted roller and the incredible sight of eagles locked in a mid-air battle. 🦅 And these were just some of the many beautiful encounters along the way.

From the smallest details to the most unexpected moments, the bush always has another story to tell. You just have to slow down, look a little closer and let nature lead the way.

This is the magic of the Greater Kruger. This is safari with soul.🌿

🐦 Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter

Birding is so much more than identifying a species.

It is listening to calls, watching movements, noticing seasonal changes and asking why a bird is where it is — and where it might be going next.

October is an exciting time in southern Africa as many migrant species return and our landscapes fill with movement.

And every observation can tell us something.

A photograph. A location. A date. A species. Even a simple note about what you saw.

These observations can contribute to a much bigger picture of migration, population changes and the habitats birds depend on.

Here in the Greater Kruger, we are incredibly fortunate to experience this movement firsthand.

So today, take a moment to look up.

You never know what might be passing through.

🐙 World Octopus Day

Eight arms. Three hearts. Remarkable intelligence. And an extraordinary ability to disappear into the world around them.

Octopuses are masters of camouflage, problem-solving and adapting to their environment — and they are a wonderful reminder that some of the most fascinating wildlife encounters happen beneath the surface.

For us at MGZ Safaris, conservation doesn't stop at the edge of the bush.

From the savannas of the Greater Kruger to the waters of Pemba, we believe in exploring wild places with curiosity, respect and a deeper understanding of the ecosystems we are privileged to experience.

Sometimes, the vultures know before you do.

We spotted vultures gathering and decided to investigate — and following them led us straight to a cheetah that had just made a successful kill.

An impala had become its meal, and the cheetah was doing what cheetahs do best: making the most of an opportunity.

Then came the unexpected visitor…

A warthog wandered a little too close for comfort, clearly interested in what was happening — until it realised exactly who was guarding the carcass.

Let’s just say the warthog suddenly had somewhere else to be. 😂

One of the wonderful things about being in the bush is that the story doesn’t always end with the animal you went looking for. Sometimes you simply follow the clues and let the bush reveal the rest.

🦏 World Rhino Day | September 22

20 years ago, I took this photograph.

Back then, seeing a rhino in our reserves felt different. Their lives were still respected, their numbers were higher, and they moved through the bush with a sense of freedom and security that we can no longer take for granted.

I often wonder about this particular rhino.

Is he still alive?
Did he survive the poaching crisis?
Or did he become another statistic?

I will probably never know.

What I do know is that so much has changed in those 20 years.

Rhinos have become increasingly wary of people. Their behaviour has changed. Their lives are shaped by a threat they should never have had to face. And across Africa, their numbers have declined dramatically.

As guides, photographers, conservationists and simply people who love wild places, we have a responsibility to speak for them.

Because our children deserve to experience the same wild Africa we were fortunate enough to know.

They deserve to see a rhino alive, wild and free — not only in photographs or history books.

Sometimes the smallest sightings become the ones you remember. 🐿️

This week, a guest had a particularly special Lowveld encounter: three tree squirrels feeding on the flowers of a knobthorn tree.

The knobthorn is often one of the first trees to flower in the Lowveld, and when it does, its flowers bring life into the landscape — from tiny insects to birds and mammals.

Watching these squirrels feeding high in the branches was a beautiful reminder that a safari isn't only about finding the big animals.

It’s about noticing what the bush is offering, and who is taking advantage of it.

Big or small, every species has a place in the story.

Look closer. Nature has so much more to tell you.
