Happy 100th Birthday to South Africa's Kruger National Park. It was within these borders that the idea and concept of Rhulani Safaris - then Rhulani Photo and Film - started many years ago. What was first a dream soon became a vision and finally a reality. Today we celebrate the beauty of this magical reserve and all the dreams, joy, laughter and unforgettable memories it has given its visitors.

It was also a privilege to complete our first large scale production in the Greater Kruger where .photo_film spent the greater part of 2 years in the Sabi Sand Private Nature Reserve working on 'Photo Safari - Kruger' in collaboration with and Buffelshoek Tented Camp. The book tells the tale of Kruger through the lens of a photographic safari experience, recounting memorable moments, historical events and exciting experiences.

Thank you, Kruger National Park, for what you mean to all of us - as individuals, families, communities and a country. 🌍📸🎥❤️

That feeling of excitement when all the elements come together as hoped ... Lions crossing deep waters still remain one of the most incredible sightings to experience in the Okavango Delta. On this particular occasion, we knew it was going to happen one way or the other as the pride was divided in two - half on this side of the river, and half on the other.

Males, females and cubs were present - feeding on the remains of a buffalo carcass and the entire scene was something extraordinary. We had been hoping for a river crossing and fortunately it didn't take too long before our hopes became reality.

It was a moment that left us in awe. To see the power of these big cats turn instantly into fear and caution as they enter a domain that completely belongs to the crocodile, is a sight to behold. The lion may be king of the land, but as soon as they tread into the depths of the unknown, their bravado quickly disappears.

Fortunately no crocodiles were present and the lioness could cross without troubles to join the rest of the pride. It was one of many unforgettable moments shared on safari with our guests.

A hippo charges at a male lion whose time on earth ended less than 12 hours after this event. The male lion, known as the S8 male, was quenching his thirst when this hippo charged out of the water, sending him running for cover.

He was so weak he nearly never made it, and while finding the strength to run for cover, the place where he lay became his final resting place. It was a tragic scene, but all part of natures infinite dance - between life and death.

Few places in South Africa can compare to the Sabi Sands when it comes to big cat sightings and wildlife interaction. It's a haven for animals - particularly the leopard of which this tour revolves around. This tour is for those who love big cats and are looking for that dream postcard quality image while enjoying a comfortable, luxurious experience.

This scene was captured on a previous Sabi Sand Big Cat Photographic Safaris with - next month we head back to to kick off our 2026 Big Cat Safaris.

We have only 1 room available for 2026! If this has been on your bucket list of tours, contact us today to secure your place on this magical experience.

This business of dwarf mongoose's security system is next level 🦁😅

After heavy rains and cold nights, there was a sense of tranquility in the air when lion and mongoose decided to put their differences aside and enjoy the morning sun on the same log.

Eventually one young lion's cursory became too much and when he investigated the mongoose hide-out he was met with protesting chirps and panicked squeals until he eventually left and the mongoose could come back out to enjoy the sun.

Botswana is an incredible country, however life out there isn't without risk. People living in local villages around the delta regularly face challenges presented by both animals and the elements. The risks are real and those who live in the region face them every day.

During a previous Okavango Delta Photo Safari, our guests were having sundowner drinks on the Mbudi River when vehicle approached from the other side. The water level was high yet they wanted to cross to our side to get to camp. We were two vehicles parked on this side and we watched on as this Landcruiser faced the deep waters, getting stuck right at the very end.

Fortunately for them, there was assistance on our side, already waiting in case of an emergency and the Landcruiser was pulled out safely. No one was harmed and we all enjoyed a beer afterward - the occupants of the vehicle very thankful for the assistance provided and after a few revs they were off.

The Okavango is a place of adventure, of thrill and of intense excitement. It has the potential to give perspective as well as phenomenal wildlife sightings. It is a place that changes lives, that brings people together and helps us cherish and respect our natural world.

If you haven't yet experienced this magic, we strongly believe you're missing out. Join us in 2026 or 2027 and be a part of this great adventure.

Leopards ... Very few animals on the African continent need less introduction. On this day we celebrate one of Africa’s most iconic and enigmatic creatures - a symbol of power, mystery, and resilience.

For centuries, leopards have held a place of prestige in human history. Their skins were worn by kings, chiefs, and warriors as a mark of authority, status, and spiritual strength. Across many cultures, the leopard was not just admired, it was revered. Yet, that same admiration led to their persecution. They were hunted relentlessly for their beautiful coats, trophies, and in some cases, out of fear.

Today, their story is shifting. We no longer celebrate the leopard for what we can take from it, but for what it represents in the wild: endurance, adaptability, and raw, untamed beauty. From dense forests to arid savannas, leopards have survived where many others couldn't. Silent, elusive, and elegenetly captivating, they remind us of nature’s intelligence and balance.

There’s something deeply stirring about locking eyes with a leopard in the wild. In that moment, everything sharpens - your senses heighten, your breath slows, and you feel truly alive. They inspire us not only as photographers and storytellers, but as humans connected to something far greater.

Today, we honour the leopard - not as a symbol of possession - but as a living embodiment of wilderness itself.

Happy Leopard Day!
