Sable Tours recently provided a partial sponsorship to Hoedspruit’s local security guard Alloise Mdhlovu to run his 10th ComradesMarathon. “Running comrades is not for the faint hearted. It is hard, it’s not called the ultimate human race for nothing. This year marked exactly a decade since I started running and as hard as it is it’s addictive, you keep longing to run year after year. I accumulated lots of experience while running and the most interesting part is as athletes we cheer for each other and you become family with strangers because we all have the same ultimate goal to finish/ to break the past year record. For me this year the goal was to obtain a green number”. Athletes earn this number when they win the race 3 times, earn 5 gold medals (finishing in the top 10) or finished the race 10 times within the official 12-hour cut-off time.
We are beyond proud of Alloise and wish him many more medals!

Hoedspruit Flying Club has a new visitor! Leading Edge Aviation, South Africa, in conjunction with Supporting Fire Services South Africa and Maruleng Fire Protection Association, just brought their UH-1H Huey to Hoedspruit Civil Airfield. This legendary helicopter, with a history stretching back to the Vietnam era, will be used for fire fighting in the region. Sable Tours went to welcome this iconic machine, which will be our hangar’s neighbour for the next four months, upon its first landing at Civils. Needless to say, we could not contain our excitement.

When we were told you can sail through the third-largest canyon in the world, the Blyde River Canyon, we knew it was an opportunity we couldn’t refuse. And we picked the right time of year! Not only does the Kadishi tufa waterfall look like it’s having a proper bawl, the streams flowing down the canyon walls look like molten silver.

When young people have hands-on experiences in conservation, they don’t only learn about wildlife protection, but they develop a genuine love for nature. They are the future, and our glorious wildlife species will one day be in their hands.

Our guides sometimes capture such fascinating animal behaviour on a transfer. At first glance, this seems like two giraffes showing each other affection, but in fact it’s two young bulls learning how to spar one day. Once they get it right, it can get quite violent - even sounding like thunder clapping!

And that’s a wrap on ! We laughed, we cried, we stood in awe of the beauty of South Africa - and we did it all together. A group of people coming together to share their passion of showing travellers some of the most beautiful places on earth. That’s nothing short of inspiring.
A special shout out to Kruger National Park who is celebrating their 100th birthday! And in the same year we’re celebrating our 20th. You’re so special to us. See y’all next year!

The Panorama Route mountains are famous for their views… but nobody talks about the part where you can jump off them.

The Graskop Gorge Swing is one of the highest swings in the world. With a 70 metre freefall, it’s like falling 20 storeys and at roughly 150kms per hour in just 3 seconds.
