πΏ Protecting the Hole in the Wall Milkwood Forest πΏ
We are delighted to support the alien invasive plant clearing project in the historic Milkwood Forest at Hole in the Wall. Thanks to the generous contributions of local cottage owners, UPL Corporation Ltd, Farmers Agri-Care, and the dedicated efforts of the Hole in the Wall Cottage Owners Association Committee, the project officially commenced this weekβand what a fantastic start it has been!
The two team members appointed to undertake the clearing, Shane and Leefa Somgidi, have already demonstrated an excellent understanding of the difference between alien invasive species and indigenous vegetation. Despite the dense growth of Lantana and Inkberry, they have made remarkable progress in just a few days.
The Cottage Owner's Association were also pleased to welcome Kholeka Gwayise from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, who inspected the site and gave the project her full approval. She was so encouraged by the initiative that she has supported extending the clearing efforts beyond the Milkwood Forest area at the Hole.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed financially, volunteered their time, or offered support. This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to protect and preserve the unique natural heritage of the Wild Coast. Together, we are helping to safeguard the iconic Milkwood Forest for future generations to enjoy. π±π
