Malawi is opening the door to billions in private investment to power its future.
At the Infrastructure Financing and Partnership Forum in Lilongwe, the Public Private Partnership Commission (PPPC) unveiled a major pipeline of projects spanning energy, transport, mining, education and more.
Key highlights include:
โก Doubling electricity access from 26% to 50% by 2030 โ driven by the Fufu ($702m) and Kholombidzo ($500m) hydropower stations
๐ The $968 million ChilumbaโMbeya railway line
โ๏ธ $1 billion in mining investment
๐ $165 million for university student accommodation and staff housing
Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamvekha stressed that energy and transportation are the most urgent priorities. With limited fiscal space and high debt pressures, government is calling on the private sector, development partners and innovative financing (PPPs, blended finance, infrastructure bonds and green funding) to help deliver the Malawi 2063 vision.
The message is clear: sustainable infrastructure needs partnership.
