What a day to be on the water! The “summer humpbacks” are still around and yesterday we got to spend time with a feeding group of about 40 animals. No photo or video can do this justice and like a guest said, it’s a complete sensory experience.
To see so many whales together, to hear all the various sounds when they exhale, to feel the spray of their exhales on your skin and not forgetting the beautiful stink you get to smell. A truly magical morning!

Dec '25. The groups seem smaller this year compared to 2024/2025, and they don't seem to stay as long as in 2024/2025 but whether one sees 2-3 or 20-30 humpbacks, having whales around Cape Town pretty much all year round is truly special.

Cape Town’s lesser-known summer whale season is here and we’re off to a great start. From late October/November to February/March humpback supergroups feed along the West Coast of South Africa and when they make their way south, we get to see them along the Cape Town Atlantic seaboard. The first group was seen on 22 Oct in the Llandudno/Oudeschip area and we got to witness a lunge feeding, feeding frenzy on the afternoon trip. So far, this has been the only group seen but there have been daily humpback sightings since, from the boat and from shore. The absolute highlight of the last 10 days has to be the very rare sighting of Risso’s dolphins. This is an offshore species, so seeing them along our shores was truly an incredible sight! They have been seen from shore too so keep an eye out for them.
