As if the 1991 Nyanga bus disaster was not tragic enough, another devastating accident involving the same B&C Bus Company occurred in Nyanga seven years later few kilometers from the notorious spot.

On 3 August 1991, a B&C bus carrying students and staff from Regina Coeli School crashed on the winding Nyanga–Ruwangwe Road, claiming 85 lives. It remains one of the worst road disasters in Zimbabwe’s history.

Then, on 5 January 1998, another B&C bus crashed in the Nyanga area, killing 45 people and injuring many others.

These tragedies devastated families and communities. Some families lost both parents at the same time. What BNC bus company did to the Nyanga community can never be forgotten💔💔💔😭 thanks to the Zimbabwean government for banning the BNC bus company from operating —the pain still feels as fresh as if it happened yesterday.

Nyanga’s steep, narrow and winding roads demand experience, patience and extreme caution from every driver. Speeding, negligence and reckless driving can destroy entire families within seconds.

May the souls of all those who lost their lives rest in eternal peace, and may their families continue to find strength and comfort.

Today marks 35 years since the Nyanga bus disaster in 1991. A BnC bus carrying 97 Regina Coeli High School teachers and students to the Catholic Association Games at St Killoans in Rusape lost control at Nyakamba, a notorious spot, resulting in the deaths of 85 students and teachers. Only 12 survived in a miraculous manner that remains unexplained to this day. Among the 12 survivors, some are now disabled, others have lost their senses, and some were traumatized for life. That was the darkest cloud to ever hover over Nyanga and Zimbabwe as a whole. I don't think there has ever been a disaster in Zimbabwe that claimed such a large number of lives in a road accident. Some families lost two, three, or even four family members. My plea is to the Zimbabwean government to remember the 12 survivors, who surely needed and still need government support ever since.
