Some people are okay with just waking up and working hence they dont see the need to burden themselves with picking up books and reading to learn something additional. But those who aren’t happy must read if they want to change and succeed beyond where they currently are. Some are okay with just remaining on the safe side of the E side of cash flow quadrant. If they want to advance they just look for another job that will pay slightly more.. then continue just working till the grave of retirement.

But if you want to live life according to your own values and terms you have to pick up books and read and be taught. Often when I ask some people about reading they say they read what interests them. Which is fine. But then question becomes, “so success and earning more money don’t interest them?” Often I say to people I mentor that you don’t read because it’s nice, you read books because you want to be taught. You need to learn how to think properly about major things like money and success and personal growth.

You read not just for information but for transformation. That’s the purpose of self education. Reading simply just for information is pointless and a poor use of our mental space. We need to learn how to think more intelligently and decisively if we want to actually accomplish above average. To have more uou simply have to become more. And to become more means to grow in your capacity to think. And that’s the true purpose of reading. If a book doesn’t make you think more sharply then it’s a pointless book.

The person you have become so far has given you the life that you have right now. Question becomes are you happy with what you have been given by who or what you are currently? If the answer is no, then you need to seek out knowledge on how to become better. And books are your own personal mentors. To be great you need to read great books and have great conversations with the great men who have put their greatness in writing. Robin Sharma said Reading is having a conversation with the author. Choose them wisely.

Be careful not to compare yourself to average. Average comparison will make you think you’re progressing in life when you’re just being stagnant and complacent.

Comparing yourself to the average people or things in life will make you believe you’re not that bad or worse, make you believe you are better just because you’re slightly a bit above those who are below average. Just because you have a “nicer” job will make you believe you are doing much better than those with less satisfying or no jobs. That type of comparison with average will kill your need to grow and make you drift into mediocrity and poverty of unfulfilled dreams and aspirations.

There’s nothing worse in this world than just being average. And there’s nothing more promoted by this world than average living. People just doing what everybody else is doing, believing what everyone else is believing. And living how everyone one else is living. Consuming what everybody else is consuming. Accepting what everybody else has accepted. Go to work, complain about the work, don’t give your best at work, get paid, afford to buy some shiny things and look forward to weekends of just chilling and drinking with friends. And wake up again on Monday to start the cycle all over again and maintain the status quo..

Do not settle for average living when you’re capable of exceptional living. And the Art of Exceptional Living comes at a price. A price to change and keep growing. No matter how well you might think you have done so far in comparison to average.

7. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by engaging in Continuous Education Programme and attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.

8. Identify business opportunities and sales channels.

9. Be a great team player and leader
