We love a long tong 🔥

We’ve been fans of for years, so when they got in touch and offered to gift us one of their products personalised for Father’s Day, I jumped at the chance.

You can personalise their tongs or aprons with a name, a message or even a handwritten note. I got the boys involved, although I had to help them with writing “Dad”, drawing an outline of our Defender and adding their initials because their concentration and handwriting at three years old still leave a lot to be desired.

If you’re thinking of ordering one, don’t leave it until the last minute. Orders are shipped nationwide within 2–4 business days, and they also offer overnight shipping at checkout. So even if you do leave it a little late, there’s still a good chance they’ll get it to you in time.

If you’re a dad, tag your wife so she knows what you want for Father’s Day and you don’t end up with another pair of socks 🔥🍻🧦

When Ben first told me he wanted to buy a Defender, my answer was no.

We already had a Jimny that worked perfectly well. I didn’t want to spend more money on a car. I worried about the maintenance, the breakdowns, and whether it was a completely ridiculous decision.

But after thinking about it for a few weeks, I realised something.

You only get a handful of real vetoes in a marriage, and I wasn’t going to waste one on a car.

So I said yes.

And it turned out to be one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

Somewhere along the way, I probably fell more in love with the Defender than Ben did. It’s my soul car.

The thing that’s carried us to some of our favourite places and memories. I love driving it, I love kitting it out, and I love watching our boys grow up in, on top of, and around it.

Has it broken? Absolutely.

Has it stranded us? Once or twice.

Would I do it all again tomorrow?

Without hesitation.

So if your partner has just asked whether they should buy a Defender, the answer is probably yes.

And you probably won’t regret it 💚

Never in a rush when the view is the Drakensberg mountains ⛰️

The best view 🧼

We loved Rossi Pools in Gonarezhou. This thatched lapa was perfected right on the cliffs and each evening we took hot bucket baths overlooking the river and the huge crocodiles 🐊

Murder on the mountain 💀

I should know better by now but I still fall for it. Thankfully the view was good!

Part One: Johannesburg → Great Zimbabwe 🇿🇼

We left Joburg at 4am and headed straight for Beitbridge, fully braced for chaos… and honestly, it couldn’t have been smoother. The SA side was quick, and on the Zim side a tourism official met us, walked us through every step, explained that the process is completely free, and warned us not to accept “help” from anyone asking for money. The new border building is genuinely impressive too.

Then came the drive.

Long. Slow. Roadworks, trucks, broken tar. By late afternoon, something felt off with the steering. Subtle at first. Easy to ignore. We had no idea just how serious it was about to become.

We rolled into Great Zimbabwe at sunset, set up camp, heated a frozen dinner, and collapsed into bed, exhausted but grateful to have made it.

This trip is about to get interesting.

Follow along for part two and the reality of overlanding when things don’t go to plan 🚙🌍

Book now!

If you’re driving down the coast this Christmas and passing through Nature’s Valley, this is your sign to stop for a night or two.

We were kindly hosted in this newly listed Airbnb tucked deep into the forest and it’s one of the most beautiful two-person escapes we’ve found.

Nature’s Valley feels like a place time forgot. We enjoyed lagoon swims, long beach walks and forest hikes. There’s one restaurant in the village and somehow the food is incredible every single time.

❤️Save this for your Christmas road trip, like it so you can find it again

Enter to win! ⤵️

We took our two-and-a-half-year-old twins on a 2 km hike in Robberg — the Gap loop at Robberg Nature Reserve.

The Gap route is the shortest trail there, about 2.1 km and usually takes half an hour or so…for adults. We started out walking across the mostly sandy and rocky coastline, with a few gentle slopes and lookout points that drop down to ocean and beach views.

They walked most of the sandy bits themselves with just a little crying, but once the path got rougher we needed shoulder-rides. When we hit the beach at The Gap, the snacks came out and suddenly everyone was happy.

The climb back up was steep but they surprised us — they made it up the stairs on their own. The promise of ice creams helped a lot.

We’re giving away one hat, just in time for summer holidays.
