SATSA is monitoring developments following significant airspace disruptions across parts of the Middle East, which may affect international flight routes and passenger movements through key Gulf aviation hubs.
What has happened
Several countries in the Gulf region have temporarily restricted or suspended airspace operations following a sharp escalation in regional hostilities.
The situation has already resulted in flight suspensions, cancellations and rerouting by multiple international carriers, including services to major aviation hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha.
As many long-haul routes between Europe, Africa and Asia pass through Gulf airspace, the disruption may have knock-on effects for connecting flights and travel itineraries.
UAE: Partially closed, described by authorities as a precautionary security measure
Israel: Closed to all civilian air traffic
Iran: Closed, with a total suspension of flights
Iraq: Closed, with a total suspension of flights
Jordan: Closed, with a total suspension of flights
Qatar: Functionally closed due to active missile threats
Bahrain: Functionally closed due to active missile threats
