You asked, we answered.
Do I have to ride every day?
We get it. Not everyone wants to spend every available moment in the saddle. Some people prefer a little more downtime, the chance to explore on foot or by kayak, try their hand at fishing, or simply stretch their legs after a long day’s ride.
The good news? Not all of our itineraries involve riding every day.
If you're looking for a trail experience that offers more flexibility, take a look at our 8-night Wild Coast Meander. With shorter riding days and plenty of opportunity to relax and explore, it's ideal for riders returning after a break and for those who haven't had the chance to build up their fitness for a more challenging trail.
Or, if you'd prefer to create your own balance of riding and relaxation, our Kei River Trails can be tailored to include days off and activities such as kayaking, fishing, hiking, or simply soaking up the Wild Coast at your own pace.
So no, you don't have to ride every day. Whether you want a week packed with saddle time or a more relaxed adventure with plenty of variety, there's an itinerary to suit you. So, pop us a DM, and we’ll point you in the right direction.

This week’s Horse of the Week has been spending a little time out of the spotlight. A familiar face on countless trails, our handsome chestnut, Blue, has been enjoying some well-earned downtime this year, taking the time to recover from a bit of an injury and get a well-deserved break.
With plenty of gentle walk rides now under his saddle, Blue has recently graduated to some light schooling. The next step will be rebuilding his fitness to get him back out on trail by the end of the year.
So, to all the Blue fans out there (and I know there are plenty of you), don't worry — Blue is neither gone nor forgotten. He's simply taking a little time to be Blue, rather than everyone's favourite trail horse. 💙🐴

We usually make a big deal about matching every rider with exactly the right horse, but when you’ve got two German work riders who are happy to ride just about anything, letting them share horses on trail makes perfect sense. 🇩🇪🐴
So, Celina and Leoni didn’t just share some unforgettable moments on trail; they shared Percy and Aragorn too! 🤝❤️
The horses didn’t seem to mind all the swapping around. If anything, it kept them on their toes, which was probably for the best considering the constant stream of unexpected wildlife.
From loose ponies 🐴 and wandering donkeys to an impressive number of pigs 🐷 and the inevitable scattering of local Nguni cows 🐄, the horses never quite knew what might appear around the next corner.
Thankfully, Percy and Aragorn took it all in their stride, proving that a little variety, in both riders and roadside entertainment, keeps life interesting. 😄
One day you're carrying Celina. The next day it's Leoni. And somewhere in between, you're dodging pigs and explaining to a cow that the road belongs to everyone… but horses come first! 🤷‍♂️🐴👑

The easiest way to keep the kids entertained these holidays? We’ve got you covered. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🐴
Children glued to screens throughout the holidays is probably every parent's worst nightmare, which is why mums, dads, and even grandparents are frantically scrolling through "What's On" guides in search of something that will keep the whole family happy for a day.
Well, we have our own idea of family entertainment — and, unsurprisingly, it involves horses.
Come over to Kei Mouth for the day and start with a morning ride that will see you discovering some of the village’s treasures, as well as its beach. Finishing just before lunch, you’ll have plenty of time to choose your perfect lunch spot and enjoy the kind of leisurely lunch you deserve after a morning outdoors.
And don't feel you have to rush home afterwards, either. A stroll along the beach is the perfect remedy for a little over-indulgence in the dessert department and, if all goes according to plan, the best way to guarantee a very quiet journey home afterwards. 😴😉
A real family day out. No screens required.

Winter is often associated with brown hills and dull horizons, but on the Wild Coast it's bright with colour as the local aloes burst into life, painting the hillsides in brilliant shades of red and orange. Their nectar provides a welcome winter feast for the birdlife, and, much like their famous cousin aloe vera, they’re known for their healing properties too.
As for us? We just love the splash of colour they bring to the winter landscape as they stretch their fiery blooms towards the sun, reminding us that, on the Wild Coast, winter is anything but dull. ☀️❤️🐴🌊
Thank you, once again, to Oven for the lovely images.

What do you think he's thinking? 👇🐴😆

Never ridden before? There’s no better way to be introduced to horse riding than on the beach — and especially on Kei Mouth beach! 🐴🌊✨
Our 1½-hour beginner ride is perfect for anyone who’s never been on a horse before, or simply prefers to take things at a more leisurely pace. Sticking to a walk, we potter down through the village, taking in the ocean views before ducking through the forest and onto the beach.
From there, we ride the length of the beach, from Stinky Bay to the Kei River Mouth, turning inland only when we reach the start of Lover’s Lane. This beautiful forest track winds its way back to the village and, eventually, home. ❤️
Our horses know the route like the backs of their hooves and, more importantly, they know their job: keeping you safe while introducing you to the simple joy of riding a horse on the beach. 🐎
No pressure, experienced guides, and horses that are as patient as they are friendly. What better way to spend a morning during the upcoming winter holidays? ☀️
Blue skies aren't guaranteed... but they are highly probable. 😉

Blue skies, sunshine, and horses as far as the eye can see. ☀️🐴
I told you winter on the Wild Coast was unbeatable, and these photos show it at its very best. Taken during our signature horse trail at the end of May, they arrived a little too late to make it into the original post—but they were simply too beautiful not to share.
Besides, it's always nice to revisit happy trail memories, isn't it? A big thank you to Sharon Chantler for capturing and sharing these wonderful moments with us. ❤️
From open beaches and rolling hills to long days in the saddle, this is the Wild Coast at its finest. The only question is: when will you come and experience it for yourself? ❤️🐴🌊
