You might’ve noticed that we don’t talk a lot about horse welfare, which may seem strange for an operation that revolves around it. And I guess that’s the point. We don’t harp on about it because, for us, it’s as natural as breathing 🌿
In most tourism ventures, the guests come first, and while we take the very best care of our riders, it’s our horses that come first — on trail , in the yard, and in our hearts ❤️
We know every scratch and rub, every cough and snort. We adjust feeds 🌾, change bits, alter saddles, design tailored training and rehabilitation programmes, introduce new supplements, and provide ongoing support through our chiropractor and physiotherapist
It’s constant, hands-on, and deeply personal.
If you’ve been a guest at Wild Coast Horses, you’ll know. And if you haven’t… you should come see for yourself ✨🐴

One of the beautiful things about the Wild Coast is that the terrain dictates the pace. 🐴
There are no endless hours of walk. No long-drawn-out trotting sessions. Just a constantly shifting landscape that asks for something different every time it offers up a new view. 🌊
A gallop along the beach can be followed by a quiet walk through coastal forest. A long, winding canter that keeps you guessing all the way can precede a peaceful stroll along a meandering stream. 🌿
These constant changes keep the horses engaged but relaxed, keep riders switched on, and ensure no two days are ever the same. 🐎✨
And that creates contrast. The kind of contrast that makes the fast moments feel more exhilarating, and the quiet moments feel like they matter.
That’s the rhythm of the Wild Coast. 🌊

The Wild Coast is no game reserve, but that doesn’t mean it’s devoid of life 🐴🌿

There’s plenty of wildlife out there if you take the time to look… and if luck happens to be on your side 👀✨ While we can’t promise you’ll come face to face with an elephant, you might just spot its closest living relative instead 🐘😉

And that’s only the beginning. From feathered friends soaring overhead 🦅 to the sleek, shiny creatures beneath the waves 🌊🐬, the Wild Coast is bursting with life in all shapes and sizes.

It may not be the Big Five, but every species has something special to offer, even if it’s simply reminding us of the incredible diversity of life we share this earth with 💚

And with whale season just around the corner 🐋, now’s the perfect time to book your trail and discover the unexpected wildlife of the Wild Coast.

While some rely on horse walkers and hydrotherapy systems to get their horses fit, at Wild Coast Horses we still do it the old-fashioned way… which means we get fit too! 🐴💪
With the winter hotting up (yes, we know that sounds contradictory 😅) and saddles filling fast, every horse in the team needs to be trail-fit and ready to go. And that means plenty of hours in the saddle for the guiding team as well.
Which is why, when the trails roll around, they make it all look so effortless! 🌊☀️

Moved by the tides, driftwood has no control over its journey or destination.
That kind of freedom could be unsettling, which is why our guides are there to ensure your Wild Coast journey always finds its way… more or less! 😉

I love telling you stories of our horseback adventures along the Wild Coast, but sometimes, just sometimes, other people’s words say it better. So instead of me gushing about the wonderful group who joined us on our latest Wild Coast Horse Trail, I thought I’d let them take the lead and share, in their own words, what those eight days meant to them.
Tracy: “Beautiful coastline. Breathtaking.”
Dani: “The ride was a great balance of pace and scenery.”
Sharon: "I think the guide can make or break a trip, and Tertia certainly made it - thank you!”
Dani: “We had an amazing family trip, every day was different and exciting."
Megan: “I can’t really put into words how amazing this trip was! Tertia, Michelle and Nicky, you taught me so much. Your willingness to teach and let me learn was incredible.”
Linda: "The horses were impressively fit and well-loved. Thulani was such a star and put her heart into everything.”
Jen: “I loved Eclipse and thought he was a wonderful match for me.”
Cheryl: “Lovely, fit horses, fabulous beach riding with spectacular scenery.”
And honestly, that’s what these trails are all about — good horses, good people, and eight unforgettable days on the Wild Coast. 🐴✨

Not everyone takes the most direct route to the Wild Coast. Some tag their riding adventure to the end of another experience, and that couldn’t be more true for Bonnie, who joined us for a Kei River Trail last week. 🐴✨
After a life-changing experience near Kruger, Bonnie came to the Wild Coast looking to slow down, switch off and find an equine companion she could truly connect with while soaking up the beauty of the coastline.
She quickly bonded with Mishka, who’s growing beautifully into her role as a trail horse, while Poppet stepped in as the calm, experienced partner for some of the longer rides.
While the sun wasn’t always shining, the photos prove that the clouds did little to dampen the spirits.
Perhaps the best way to describe the week is in Bonnie’s own words: “No pressure. No stress.”
If that sounds like the kind of reset you’ve been craving, the Wild Coast will be waiting. 💙
