June Solstice in East London is on Saturday, 21 June 2014, 12:51.
The light is at the end of the tunnel, or at least there is more light to our days from today, Saturday 21 June, with the passing of the winter solstice. The winter solstice has the least number of hours of daylight of the year for those living south of the equator. The sun rose at 7:10 this morning and will set at 17:11 this afternoon.
Next year the solstice will be June 21 for the third consecutive year, and in 2016 it will go back to June 20. From today, the number of daylight hours will gradually increase to reach their peak on December 21.
