Golden hour magic at Knysna Waterfront
As the sun dips behind the lagoon, everything slows down. Boats gently rocking, water glowing, and the sky turning shades you didn’t think possible. There’s nothing quite like a Knysna sunset.

The original owners was Joan & Robin Praslin, from the Island of Praslin, Seychelles. How amazing is this that the surname is the same as the island name?!
Zamani was built in 1968 from very rare Takinaki wood. She was launched in 1972. Zamani is a Porpoise type yacht and designed by William Garden. She was manufactured in St Anne, Praslin Island by yacht builder Rodney Pavpinneau.
Praslin is the 2nd largest island (38.5km2) lying 44km northeast of Mahe, the capital of the Seychelles. Praslin has a population of around 7 500 people. It was named Isle de Palmes by explorer Lazare Picault in 1744 and used as a hideaway by Pirates!
The island was renamed in 1768 to Praslin. The tropical forest tracts birds such as the Seychelles BLACK Parrot and known for the UNIQUE Coco De Mer fruits from the and Vanilla orchids, the Coco De Mer is endemic to the islands of Seychelles. General Charles Gordon was convinced that the Vallee de Mai was the Biblical “Garden Of Eden”
SV Zamani sailed from Praslin to Knysna. She was sold to keen yachtsman Chris and his lovely lady Anouk Edwards from Knysna – Chris was the Commodore of the Yacht Club at the time as well as the former Mayor of the town and work part of a core group of parents starting the independent Oakhill School years ago. The couple spent 12 years restoring Zamani to make it their floating home, and eventually set sail from Knysna across the Atlantic and trough the traits of Gibraltar where they spent 4 European summers in the Med and Turkey. Anouk decided to bring Zamani home (Cape Town) after the death of Chris and Zamani was returned to SA. Anouk appointed the very experienced skipper Colin Forster to sail Zamani back from Turkey to Brazilia and the final last leg against the Easterly Trade winds from Brazil to Cape Town.
How did Zamani become a Pirate Ship?. Boatbuilder Kevin Fouche and wife Rika Fouche sold their boatbuilding company 2 years ago in 2017 and decided to find something exciting to keep them busy. The idea of a “own” Pirate ship in Knysna” was attractive with the aim of attracting the locals, kids parties, family and friend parties as well as excursions for tourist. Kevin painted Zamani’s hulls a dark brown & black (to look like a Pirate Ship and made some changes inside, a new indoors bar island was built with a small lounge area as well as a smart double cabin.
The Knysna Pirate Ship is operating under the umbrella of “Waterfront Lagoon Cruises” with daily departures from the Knysna Waterfront. The Kiosk is located inside the waterfront next to the ferry jetties with
