One always hear about fire 🔥🔥and fire prevention, but very few people actually understand or pay attention to it.
Until you experience it yourself, or it happens to someone you love....

On the evening of 28 May 2025, while we were doing some renovations at our properties in Marloth, we were on scene at this river house that caught fire. Was it not for the speedy reaction of 3 individuals, the 2 elderly occupants of this property could have suffered a fate much worse than only burn wounds and smoke inhalation (they were taken to hospital, treated and discharged already, thank goodness).

Let me tell you, the heat cannot be described, the sounds deafening, smell is terrible, smoke so thick, it is much worse than any movie can portray. I was sick to my stomach, you stand and watch and try to assist by fetching and carrying, torching on the couplings for the pipes to enable the firemen to see in the dark, hold onto connections as the equipment is heavy, while everything these owners had, was burnt to a crisp 😭😭.

Marloth Park is a high risk area, with dry veld and lots of thatch roof properties. It is not only human lives at risk, but our animals (big and small) as well. During this ordeal Theo rescued a likkewaan, which was so traumatised it wouldnt let go of his hand, and eventually when we got him to a safe spot, checked him over and watered him down, it just lay down and didnt even run off. Luckily later on it did make its way back into the bush.

Thank you to the selfless work of our Fire Brigade, which consists 100% of volunteers under the leadership of an ex-fireman, Vaugn, the fire was contained and disnt spread to neighbouring properties.

Marloth Park has a fire engin, water tankers, equipment and very willing volunteers to assist in an emergency. All this is funded from donations from the volunteers themselves, owners, guests and public, not a cent is received from government, municipality etc.

We are pleading with you, if you have a couple of spare rands available, pls donate towards this very good cause and help our Fire Team to assist when it is needed.

NOT MARLOTH PARK
Amazing but also very concerning sighting involving a young male leopard, that has recently displayed unusually inquisitive behavior towards the safari vehicles.

Footage has been shared showing this young leopard jumping onto the bonnet of a Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge vehicle. The incident took place during a sighting whilst two cubs and their mother were feeding on an impala. The situation quickly escalated when the male cub moved towards the vehicle and unexpectedly jumped up.

SANParks officials were immediately notified of the incident.

Kudos to this man behind the wheel keeping so still- I would have pooped myself 🙈🤣
