A Tribute by Jabulile Felicity Ngcobo

We convey our condolences to the Nxasana family on the passing of Thami Nxasana, Ixesibe, as he proudly used to call himself. Lamontville Tourism and Heritage Association (LATOHA), has indeed lost a giant, someone selfless and who believed in people development. He had a vision for the future generation. He was an intellectual and academic who took great pride in the township of Lamontville (isi Monti) as he would refer to his township roots.
I am Jabulile Felicity Ngcobo (known to Lamontville as Qhimfo), founder & chairperson of LATOHA.
I have known Thami since 1982 when he was married to Dudu. I knew them as marketing champions as we all worked at Duraware Waterless Cookware as sales representatives.
The company closed down after our incentives trip to Spain in 1984.
As LATOHA, I met him on the National Heritage and Liberation Route launched in Kwamuhle- Ethekwini Municipality. He made a presentation after the late Paddy Kearney, director at Diakonia.
I too presented on the Lamontville Heritage Liberation Route which was launched the previous year in 2017.
We invited him to a Township Seminar as a keynote speaker in 2018 and within that short space of time between 2018 & 2021, we worked on a number of projects such as documentaries prepared by him through his research work.
He was keen in ensuring that the people of Lamontville both adults and youth alike understood that Msizi Dube invented the "Asinamali" slogan which formed the basis of the strikes against Municipality rent hikes and transport fares increases.
The community is now able to make money using their talent and heritage as well as our geneology.
Lamontville Community Heritage and Tourism Development T/A LATOHA had been working with him on the following documentaries upon his passing:
(i) Ononhlevu ( unsung heroes)
(ii)Issy Geshen whereabouts.
(iii)Where is the child
(iv) Youth development network with elderly.
He never forgot to mention Aunty Ntombende Nxasana who ploughed home economics skills into schools by introducing needle work, showing that sewing can be accomplished without the use of a sewing machine.
The last time I spoke to him, we had a set meeting for March 2020 which we later had to cancel due to the Covid19 level 5 lockdown which was when he left for his Pretoria home.
He had a vision for the Moyeni Radebe Street family home to be a museum.
May God ease the family pain & May his beautiful soul Rest In Peace.
Thank you.
