Nature isn’t something you rush through.

That’s how we designed our Classic Thonga Trail: five days through South Africa’s wildest, most biodiverse coastline, ending with dolphins and coral reef on the ocean safari. While enjoying fine dining in the bush.

Introducing the Cape Peninsula Trail: a new way to walk one of the richest floral kingdoms on Earth, from one villa above Cape Point. Unpack once. Walk out each morning into 9,000 plant species (70% found nowhere else on the planet), and come home each evening to chef-prepared meals, Cape wines, and a fire.

One afternoon, a resident botanist leads you deeper into it: ending with a botanical gin, harvested from the fynbos around you. Later in the trail, the African Sea Forest waits below the surface for those who want to go further.

Meet Dungi!! 🌿
One of our local guides with incredible knowledgeable of local plants and their traditional uses. Twenty-plus plants into the walk and he might stop for another plant, break off a stem, and say “here, this is what you can use to brush your teeth.”

This is what a Thonga trail also is: not just pretty hikes, seriously good food and amazing scenery, but also walking with local guides that are walking libraries of local knowledge that you won’t find in any guidebook!

From nesting mothers to tiny hatchlings racing for the waves: turtle season in Maputaland is unlike anything else!! 🐢🌊

These females were born on this very beach many years ago, and will soon return to nest here themselves.

Last Saturday we celebrated MPA day with Sodwana Bay!! 27 kids from a nearby Children’s Home joined us for our Sea School and a beach clean up! We played volleyball, created a human whale and organized an awesome morning run and evening Trivia! Thank you for your always amazing help with our sea schools and for making funds available to get these kids explore the ocean!

No steep climbs, no technical sections, just easy trail walking through one of the most incredible and diverse coastlines in South Africa!! With several bailout points along the way and a mix of activities like snorkeling and boat cruises, everyone in the family has a jol!!😁😁
