Last evening, McGregor Winery held their annual local function. They showcase the new vintages and releases. Last evening, it was the 2026 Calcrete Chardonnay which I highly recommend: it's unwooded and mineral(ly). Chardonnay is not my favourite cultivar, but this style - only available in our region, with only seven w**eries with a 2026 offering - suits my palate.

We were also privileged to get an early (like a whole year early) tasting of the Cape red which will be released this time next year. A blend of Pinotage (40%) and equal amounts of Shiraz and Merlot and on oak for 18 months, bottled four months ago, it was already very drinkable. We shall (im)patiently wait for next year when, w**e maker, Prieur du Plessis, assured us, it will be even better. No doubt.

Casual conversation and pizza with beautiful spring skies: McGregor doing what it does best.

A new iteration of a much loved McGregor gem. Views for days and sunsets to live - not die - for.

Die Watermeul, a country inn: accommodation and meals. Open to tbe public for breakfast, lunch and dinner on selected days.

And for stoepsitting with friends.

Wishing chef Zanne and her team all the best for this new chapter.

We did breakfast and saw the sun over the yard arm:

Roosterbrood with aubergine, hummus and avocado. The perfect brunch to set one up for.the day.

An interesting twist on French toast with spinach and foccocia.

The really hearty full breakfast. Need I say more?

Lovely alfresco table setting. I love the antique and vintage charger plates.

The bridge from Robertson to McGregor is open!

A bridge rebuilt. A community reconnected.

Today we celebrate more than the reopening of a bridge.

Following the devastating floods in May, countless people worked tirelessly to restore this vital link between Robertson and McGregor. Engineers, construction teams, municipal staff and everyone involved worked through challenging conditions to reconnect our communities.

On behalf of McGregor Tourism, thank you.

Your dedication has restored more than a road. You’ve reconnected residents, businesses, visitors and everyone who loves spending time in our village.
