Planning a Kenya trip? There's one new thing to add to your checklist ✈️

Since 6 October 2026, visitors to Kenya need a local travel health insurance policy before their eTA can be completed. It costs USD 44 per traveller plus small processing fees, and it sits alongside your own travel insurance rather than replacing it.

Already have your eTA? You'll still need the cover before you fly, and you can buy it on its own at insurance.ecitizen.go.ke.

Heading to Tanzania as well? It has its own separate policy, so budget for both.

Our tip: save your insurance reference number on your phone, as no certificate is emailed to you. Then it's straight on to the good part!

Your first bush flight is one of the best parts of a safari, as long as your bag isn't the problem.

Small aircraft come with their own rules, and they're easy to get caught out by. Soft bags, strict weight limits and a few smart packing choices make the whole trip smoother, from the airstrip to the lodge.

Planning a Tanzania trip? There's one new thing to add to your checklist ✈️

From 1 October 2026, most foreign visitors entering Mainland Tanzania need a local inbound travel insurance policy. It costs USD 44 per adult, lasts up to 92 days, and sits alongside your own travel insurance rather than replacing it.

Heading to Zanzibar as well?
If you land on the Mainland first, your NIC policy covers you there too.
If you land in Zanzibar first, your Zanzibar policy is all you need.

Our tip: buy it online before you fly at inbound.nicinsurance.co.tz and keep a copy on your phone.

Then it's straight on to the good part. 🏝️
