The UK is introducing a new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system for visa-free travellers. It is not a visa, but a digital permission required before travel to the UK.

Key Dates
1. Already Active: Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan.
2. From 8 January 2025: ETA required for non-European visa-free countries (e.g., USA, Canada, Australia). Applications opened 27 November 2024.
3. From 2 April 2025: ETA applies to all European nationals. Applications open 5 March 2025.
4. Full Enforcement – 25 February 2026: All non-visa nationals must have an ETA before travel.

Cost & Validity
1. £16, valid for 2 years (or until passport expires).
2. Allows multiple entries.

Who Does NOT Need an ETA
1. British and Irish citizens
2. Non-Irish residents of Ireland travelling from inside the Common Travel Area
3. Anyone with a valid UK visa or UK immigration status

Why It Matters
The ETA ensures pre-travel security checks and is part of the UK’s move to a fully digital border. Travellers should check their status early to avoid delays or denied boarding.
