The rugged Wild Coast, home to our Pondo Trail™️ has long been home to the resilient AmaMpondo people, whose story is woven into the very fabric of the land. It is this unique blend of cultural and natural heritage that led us to establish our Pondo Trail™️ here, offering an immersive Wild Coast hike that is as much about connection as it is about adventure.

Meet Zorro—the guy with the cheeky grin, infectious energy, and a knack for making every trail feel like an adventure.

Born and raised in Mtentu, Zorro started working for his dad’s transport company, driving the route between Port Edward and Msikaba. But by 2023, we knew we needed him on our team, and he officially became part of our Wild Child family —bringing his love for people, the wild, and his solid dance moves along with him.

Before Wild Child, Zorro was studying to become a game ranger, which he completed in 2022.

Zorro’s other interests include; music, dancing, soccer and running to keep fit.

He thrives on meeting new people, making memories, and soaking up the magic of the Wild Coast.

Zorro, your energy and enthusiasm make every trip better—we’re so glad to have you on the team.

Meet Gert Cronje— our home grown Wild Child Tarzan.

Gert joined our guiding team in June 2024, and if you’ve been lucky enough to experience one of our adventures with him, you’ll know he brings endless energy and enthusiasm, solid leadership and just the right amount of mischief.

Before trading in boots for bare feet, Gert played professional rugby in Spain for 4 years. He’s also coached CrossFit and run his own sportswear brand designing kits for schools and clubs.

After spending two weeks at our Manteku beach camp, where he was attending a friend’s wedding, Gert told his mates that he wanted to live there. A week later, he met the Wild Child team… and the rest is history!

Gert loves biltong, staying active and being surrounded by good people. He dislikes cold water, heights and hadedas!

What draws him to the wild is the space to be still—where the noise quiets, the senses sharpen, and nature takes over.

Gert, we’re so stoked to have you on the team. Dankie vir alles—you’re a legend!

This unique Pondoland coastline is too fragile to sustain high density tourism.

We have, therefore, crafted our Pondo Trail®️ as an exclusive, high-end product with a low environmental impact. Fully catered and supported, allowing you the freedom to ‘travel light’ and embrace your surroundings.

Behind the scenes, our ground crew will transport your luggage to each overnight stop and to make sure the Champagne is chilled and the fire is dancing upon your arrival.

Be Wild, Be Free

Wild Child Africa was born out of the unquenchable thirst for adventure of two brothers and their young families, a pure love of nature and the outdoors and a humble effort to live a simple, purposeful and meaningful life.

Matt is no stranger to exploration and adventure having embarked on and led many trips into and around Africa and Antarctica. His love for wildlife and conservation, combined with his knowledge and passion for Africa and particularly the Wild Coast, makes him the perfect adventure companion.

Cam, campfire cuisine extraordinaire and camp manager, is responsible for ensuring the comforts of camp life after every day’s adventure and making the magic at mealtimes. Cam’s knowledge of South Africa’s coastline, having walked the entire 3000km of it from Namibia to Mozambique, combined with her dazzling culinary and 4x4 skills, equip her as the ultimate Pondo ground crew leader where logistical challenges are met on an hourly basis.

Tim, having spent 20 years in education, eight of which as a Headmaster, and having explored the jungles of Cameroon and the glaciers of Antarctica, guided in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Kenya, and fished virtually every piece of African water south of the equator, is the perfect host to ignite your passion for Africa and entertain you with stories about some of its charms. Tim is passionate about leadership and he has lectured on this topic to various audiences over the past few years.
