A wonderful review received from Janie. We spent the morning in the Swartberg Mountain birding. Janie's bucket list bird was the Orange-Breasted Sunbird. Boy were we spoilt. Even saw some juveniles already!

Most water birds have an oily layer on their feathers so that they do not absorb the water and make them heavy.
However the Cormorants are different. They actually absorb the water so that they can stay under water longer. This aids in the way they search for food.
This is also the reason why they need to stand in the sun to warm up and dry their wings
