Today, we raise a glass to a South African original.

Cap Classique’s story began in 1971, when Frans Malan of Simonsig Wine Estate released Kaapse Vonkel, South Africa’s first bottle-fermented sparkling wine. What started with one pioneering bottle has grown into a category proudly shaped by South African vineyards, winemakers and regions.

More than five decades later, Cap Classique can be discovered across the winelands, from Stellenbosch and Franschhoek to Robertson and beyond. Each region brings its own landscape and growing conditions to the story, while producers continue to explore different varieties, styles and expressions.

And for travellers, the story goes beyond what is in the glass. It is found in vineyard views, cellar doors, long lunches, celebrations and the people behind every bottle.

This Cap Classique Day, celebrate a sparkling wine with a distinctly South African sense of place, and perhaps discover somewhere new in the winelands while you’re at it.

Happy Cap Classique Day!

Fire has always brought people together, and at Arum Restaurant, it's at the heart of every dish.

Boschendal's celebrated Farm-to-Fire dining experience takes centre stage with a four-course winter menu that showcases the very best of the season. Crafted by chef-patron Peter Tempelhoff and executive chef Travis Finch, each course is inspired by ingredients harvested from the estate's regenerative gardens and transformed over wood fire, charcoal and smoke to create bold, comforting flavours.

Served inside the beautifully restored 1812 heritage cellar, complete with roaring fireplaces and a warm, inviting atmosphere, the Winter Special offers the perfect setting to slow down and savour an afternoon lunch or memorable evening out.

Available until 24 September, the four-course menu is priced at R595 per person and is served for lunch from Monday to Saturday and dinner every evening.

Book your table and experience why Arum continues to redefine winelands dining through exceptional produce, remarkable flavours and heartfelt hospitality.

Some wine estates invite you to taste their wines. At Zandvliet Wines, you're invited to become part of the story.

Celebrating its 50th harvest this year, the Robertson estate continues its legacy as the Home of Shiraz, producing distinctive wines shaped by the region's unique limestone-rich Kalkveld soils.

This winter, visitors can warm up beside the estate's iconic barrel-inspired fireplace in the Kalkveld Lounge while enjoying the popular Shiraz & Soup Pairing, where hearty homemade soups are perfectly matched with Zandvliet's renowned wines.

Looking for something more hands-on? Step into the blending room and create your own bottle of wine during the Blend Your Own Wine experience, where you'll blend, bottle, cork and wax-seal your own unique creation to take home. You can also explore the estate's fascinating underground Muscat tanks, transformed into an immersive exhibition space that tells the story of Zandvliet's soils, heritage and winemaking journey.

For those looking beyond wine, the estate is also home to Clemengold Gin, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing gin tasting alongside its acclaimed wine experiences.

Whether you're a passionate Shiraz enthusiast, planning a winter escape or simply looking for an authentic Robertson experience, Zandvliet offers the perfect reason to linger a little longer.

Looking for a wine farm the whole family can enjoy? Yonder Hill Wines Farm, nestled between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, offers the perfect blend of award-winning wines, great food and relaxed country living.

Visitors are welcomed into the estate's newly renovated tasting room, where floor-to-ceiling glass and an expansive wooden deck frame beautiful views of the Helderberg vineyards. During winter, the cosy bluestone fireplace creates the perfect setting to enjoy a wine tasting or linger over lunch.

Families will appreciate the dedicated children's play area and kid-friendly menu, while food lovers can tuck into gourmet wood-fired pizzas, seasonal soup and wine pairings, or freshly brewed coffee in the welcoming tasting room.

Adding to Yonder Hill's unique character is its Ankole cattle breeding stud, where these striking long-horned African cattle graze alongside the vineyards. Inspired by these magnificent animals, the estate's flagship Ankole Bordeaux-style blend celebrates both the landscape and the farm's agricultural heritage. Visitors can also enjoy Ankole craft beers brewed exclusively for the estate.

Whether you're stopping in for a leisurely lunch, a relaxed tasting or a weekend stay at the Yonder Hill Manor House, this family-owned estate offers an authentic winelands experience with something for everyone.
