The Eduard Bohlen was a German cargo ship on a routine trip from Swakopmund to Table Bay when it encountered thick fog near Conception Bay. The reduced visibility impaired the crew's navigation capabilities, causing the ship to strike a concealed sandbank and become firmly stuck.

⏳ Despite desperate attempts to free the vessel, the ship could not be salvaged and was ultimately abandoned. Today, the wreck lies partially buried in the sand, a testament to the relentless power of nature

📸 The wreck is slowly rusting away, with the desert sands continuing to shift around it. Despite its condition, the Eduard Bohlen remains a popular spot for photographers and adventurers!

There's nothing quite like 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬' 𝐮𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 through their heartfelt feedback. After all, this is what fuels our passion!

Their feedback inspires us to keep 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 to take the leap and book their dream trip with us.

Let David and Angelique Jeffery's unforgettable adventure on the Faces of the Namib guided self-drive trip, from July 1-6, 2025, ignite your passion for exploring the Namib Desert.
This 𝟓-𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝟔-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝟓𝟓𝟎 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬 of breathtaking landscapes, from Solitaire to Walvis Bay, showcasing the desert's dramatic transformation from east to west:

“As soon as you switch off from commercial mode and engage holiday mode the stresses of everyday life seem to disappear as the convoy leaves the main road and proceeds onto a single “Bakkie spoor”. Over the next few days, you connect with nature and the vast openness that surrounds you. When you get to the dunes one can only admire in awe the beauty that the desert provides.

At the end of each day the camp is erected, and first-class dinners are prepared and enjoyed under star filled skies. Just amazing! One of the highlights meant to entertain the kids sparked great interest amongst the adults as they wanted to partake in creating paper palettes by using the different coloured sand of the Namib.

For us one of the best features was introducing a group of strangers in the beginning only to end up with an amazing group of friends at the end of the tour. This was an unforgettable experience, and we will cherish the memories you helped us to create.”

“It was a trip of a lifetime, and we enjoyed it so much! The guide team was excellent. Their skills on the dunes and in the kitchen make them a dream-team for a trip like this. The meals were great - we loved the delicious starters and steaks were made to order!” – Gerrie and Marle Britz, Lüderitz to Walvis Bay

“Our group had a fantastic trip up the Skeleton Coast and also met new friends which I am sure we will keep in touch with. The guides were fantastic and very knowledgeable. We were certainly well taken care of during our trip. Would definitely recommend the trip and guides to family and friends.” – Anthony Gilson, Faces of the Skeleton Coast

Frequently asked questions about our Namib 4x4 trips

We often get asked: “Do I need previous dune-driving experience for the Faces of the Namib and Lüderitz to Walvis Bay 4x4 trips?”

The short answer is a resounding, NO. While previous experience is recommended, many participants manage the tour without having driven on dunes before.

The tours have also been designed so that dune driving becomes more challenging very gradually. The first two days will suffice to put everyone at ease, and instil enough confidence so that drivers evolve to manage trickier and more challenging dunes as we progress.

All our guides are very well-trained and highly experienced. They are capable of guiding even the most inexperienced drivers through the desert, and they will also always recommend when a driver should not attempt a certain manoeuvre and offer alternative routes instead.

The rule is to LISTEN TO EXACTLY what your guide tells you to do and obey them to the letter. This rule applies to everyone equally. Follow this golden rule, and you will have an experience of a lifetime.

The Faces of the Namib and Lüderitz to Walvis Bay trips have monthly departures in 2025.
