Boy, was this Amphitheatre hike a rather epic one. With a bit of snow laying around yesterday, we woke up to some more snow this morning. I must say I haven't seen this many snowfalls in one winter for a long time. Climate change 🤔 ?? Always be prepared. Anyway, don't worry because my next Amphitheatre hike is from 20-21 September. It's generally one of the better months to hike in the Drakensberg mountains. #

The Drakensberg mountains were in a bit of a mood this last weekend. Mostly good but also a bit grumpy. We strolled towards Champagne castle, but after some snow the day before, we couldn't clamber up the last bit of Grays pass. No worries. The mountain views were still spectacular. The first day had some mist, but day 2 was crystal clear. Spring is on the way and my 4 day hike at Mnweni from the 29th August to the 1st September will be lovely. Our summer birds are back, and there are flowers everywhere. So the plan was to hike from the Amphitheatre to Cathedral peak. The well-known Drakensberg Northern Traverse. However, the mountains were a little bit grumpy, so we changed the plan. Rather safe than sorry. The new plan was to hike along the contour path between Cathedral peak and Champagne castle. It is a spectacular hike to do, especially in winter. By now the Drakensberg was in a good mood again. Happy days 🤪. #

Last week, we enjoyed a 4 day stroll along the contour path between Cathedral peak and Champagne castle. The weather was perfect, and the Drakensberg was showing off. Unfortunately, I think people are either nervous to hike in July or feel they need to get on top of the escarpment. This is a great hike to do in winter because the views are still incredible, but it is not freezing like it is on top. So you will know this for next winter. Or summer ☀️. #

I just got back from a fun 4 days exploring Lesotho. You can't be guaranteed snow, but we were lucky to experience it. If you want to get out in the beautiful Drakensberg mountains of Lesotho then join me when I go again from the 6th to the 7th September up Sani pass and then a bit longer from 27 to 30 November. There probably won't be any snow then but the landscape will be lovely and green. Ps .social media suggested I try some tunes. Let me know if that is a good idea.

Don't these pictures look amazing? Do you wish you could see this beautiful mountain scenery for yourself? I must say the Drakensberg makes great photographers of us all. So come and join my scheduled hike to summit Champagne castle. It is the 3rd highest peak in South Africa but with better views than Mafadi 😝 The hike is from 7-10 August and costs R6400 per person on the silver porter package. Hello everyone. I wanted to remind you that I am doing a really great hike to Xeni cave from 19-20 July. It is especially good because we won't freeze on top of the Drakensberg, but the views are still incredible. Plus, youngsters of 12 or older can manage.
