The storm had kept us off the beaches for days. The tides had thrown their weight around, rearranging the shoreline as if reminding everyone who’s really in charge down here in Plett.

This morning the ocean gave us a pass.

We wandered for kilometres beneath a winter sun that had clearly missed the memo. T-shirts in June. Barefoot. Faces tilted upward, collecting warmth. The beach was scattered with thousands of shells churned up by the rough seas, each one a tiny souvenir from the deep. Pockets filling up, conversations drifting between work, life and where we’d like to disappear to next.

People imagine travel agents sit behind desks all day, shuffling paperwork. The reality is different.

Sometimes we’re answering messages while brushing sand off our feet. Sometimes we’re rearranging flights from a café. Sometimes we’re walking a beach after a storm, sorting a last-minute upgrade between shell collecting and morning coffee.

We’re intentional about stepping away from screens. But we’re never truly offline. And perhaps that’s the difference.

With online platforms you’re navigating algorithms, AI assistants and call centres. Efficient? Sometimes. Personal? Rarely.

A travel agent knows your daughter hates early flights. That your husband needs a sea view. That you’re nervous travelling alone for the first time. That your honeymoon deserves more than an automated email and a ticket number.

When flights cancel, weather rolls in or plans unravel, you don’t need a chatbot.

You need a human.

Someone who answers.

Someone who knows your name.

Someone who says “Leave it with me.”

Travel is deeply human. The people planning it should be too. 🌊🐚☀️

The message came in on a Tuesday. Boring day. Grey sky. Nothing particularly worth saving.

Then, $10,000 or the photos go public.

I remember thinking public to who?? My mum already knows I’m a disaster 😂

Booked Malawi that night. Italy two months later. Mauritius because I clearly have no impulse control. 🇲🇼🇮🇹🇲🇺

Some of the best decisions I’ve ever made started with someone trying to scare me.

Where would you have run? 👇

Voted the world’s Numero Uno scenic drive and honestly, once you’ve done it you’ll get it immediately. 🌊🌿

We just wrapped 5 days on South Africa’s Garden Route and wow. No filter needed, no exaggeration either. Coastal cliffs, ancient forests, incredible beaches and the world’s highest bungy jump all in one road trip. This 300km stretch of coastline does NOT miss.

🗓️ YOUR 5-DAY GARDEN ROUTE ITINERARY

Day 1: Mossel Bay to Wilderness
Kick off on the N2 and ease into the route. Paddle calm waterways, walk forest trails, and let Wilderness set the tone. Slow, lush and utterly peaceful.

Day 2: Knysna + Inland Detour
Sunrise at the iconic Knysna Heads, fresh oysters for lunch, then wind inland to Oudtshoorn for the mysterious Cango Caves and a face-to-face with an ostrich. Yes, really.

Day 3: Plettenberg Bay
White-sand beaches, the wild Robberg Nature Reserve peninsula, and some of the best marine wildlife watching on the continent. Dolphins before breakfast is a real possibility.

Day 4: Tsitsikamma National Park
Cross the famous Storms River Mouth suspension bridge, hike rugged coastal cliffs, and if you’re feeling brave, jump from Bloukrans Bridge, the world’s highest commercial bungy at 216m. 😅

Day 5: Slow Drive Back + Golden Hour
Take it slow on the return, stop at every viewpoint you rushed past, grab one last plate of Knysna oysters, and end at golden hour overlooking the Heads. Chef’s kiss. 🌅

Save this for your bucket list, tag someone who needs to see this, and drop a 🌿 below if the Garden Route is on your list!

Skip the museum queue. Skip the tourist boat. Skip everything they handed you in the itinerary.

Walk Amsterdam before 7am when it smells like rain and yesterday and nothing has been sanitised for your comfort yet. Eat herring the way locals eat it. Standing up. Over a bin if you have to. No ceremony.

Get the train to Utrecht. Order a beer at a brewery inside a windmill because life is short and that sentence exists. Sit by the water with the people who actually live there and notice how nobody is performing anything for anyone.

Then find a boat. A slow one. Let the canals do the work. There is something about moving through water at that pace that rearranges you a little. In a good way. In the way you came here hoping something would.

This isn’t a hidden gem post. It’s a reminder that the best version of a place is always just slightly to the left of where everyone else is standing.

Go find it.

👇 Save this. Share it with someone who needs to slow down.

Let me be honest with you for a second. 🌅
I’ve planned hundreds of trips. I’ve seen gorgeous places. But standing at the edge of Lake Malawi, watching the sun melt into the water, surrounded by nothing but warmth and stillness… I completely fell apart. In the best way.
No crowds. No noise. Just you, the water, and a country so full of heart it will quietly rearrange something inside you. They don’t call it the Warm Heart of Africa for nothing. 🇲🇼💙
This is exactly why I do what I do. Because everyone deserves to feel this. That full-body exhale of being somewhere that reminds you life is so beautifully big.
If Malawi has been on your list (or if it just got added 👀), send me a DM. I’ll take care of every single detail.
Your reset is waiting. ✈️
