Plett in Winter? Absolutely!
While Plettenberg Bay is famous for glorious sunny summer days and beach swims, winter here has its own magic. You can choose to cosy up by The Nautilus’ fireplace, enjoy a board game marathon, or catch a movie on the TV, but if you’re in the mood to explore, there’s plenty to do when the weather turns chilly (or even when the summer rain makes an appearance).
Here are some of our favourite winter or rainy-day activities:
Art & Creative Spaces
Old Nick Village: Browse artisan shops, local galleries, and watch weaving in action at the Mungo Mill. Perfect for a leisurely morning with coffee in hand.
Wildlife Encounters
Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary: Learn about African snakes and reptiles through guided tours and interactive experiences, ideal for families and curious adults. Mostly under cover.
Elephant Sanctuary: Meet and learn about these gentle giants in all-weather facilities.
Family Fun
Plett Puzzle Park: Mazes, puzzles, and outdoor challenges (some under cover) for all ages.
Wellness & Relaxation
Forest Nature Spa: Indulgent spa treatments in a forest setting.
The Spa at Kurland: Award-winning pampering in serene surroundings.
More to Explore
Monkeyland, Birds of Eden, and Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary: All can be visited in mild rain, as many exhibits are covered or in protected settings.
Craft Beer Tasting: Barrington's in Plettenberg Bay offers craft beer paddles and a cozy indoor restaurant.
Main Street and Market Square host various boutique outlets, bookshops, and eateries for relaxed browsing.
Whale Watching: Winter is prime time to see them — check with local operators for the best days to head out.
Whether you’re warming up indoors or exploring Plett’s unique spots, winter is the perfect time to slow down, savour, and discover a different side of our favourite seaside town.
