If you ever wondered about the new phenomenon of humpback whale supergroups, then read below 😉
I feel so lucky I could have witnessed and smell their gatherings just this January and also meet the iconic couple Monique and Chris Fallows.
Thanks again Ashleig from Whale Expedition SA and of course Lloyd Charles Edwards !

Sightings of super-groups – defined as groups of 20 or more humpback whales that are within five body-lengths of their nearest neighbour – are skyrocketing. Here's why: https://bbc.in/4cXEJTd

Everybody’s got a bait… 🐟🐟🐟
What a sight to see 😍 — Cape gannets diving like arrows into the ocean, sardines pushed to the surface by hundreds of common dolphins, and Bryde’s whales enjoying their share right beside them. 🐬🐋🐬
And it’s not even the sardine run yet… the ocean might get even crazier !!!

Joyeuse Journée des Baleines ! 🐋💙 🐋

Happy Whale Day! 🐋💙 🐋
Whales are more than ocean icons — they are flagship species for marine conservation and powerful allies in keeping our oceans healthy. By cycling nutrients, supporting marine food webs, and even helping capture carbon, these gentle giants play a vital role in maintaining the balance of life beneath the waves.
Protecting whales means protecting the entire ocean ecosystem. Every action matters — after all, it’s the little drops that make the ocean. 🌊
Each of us has the power to help protect our blue planet. 💙

In case you complain you don’t get enough sleep these days think of s***m whales and girafes 🥱😉

S***m whales have one of the most fascinating sleep styles in the animal kingdom, it’s called “vertical sleeping.” Instead of lying horizontally like most creatures, these ocean giants sleep suspended vertically in the water column.

But here’s where it gets even more incredible: whales are voluntary breathers, meaning they have to consciously think about every breath they take. To rest safely, they shut down half of their brain at a time. One side sleeps while the other stays awake to control breathing and watch for danger. Talk about multitasking!

Scientists believe s***m whales spend only about 7% of their day sleeping, often in short naps lasting just 10–15 minutes. That makes them one of the least-sleeping species on Earth, with giraffes coming in a close second at around 8%!

Even when they rest, these gentle giants remind us how beautifully adapted marine life is to its world beneath the waves.
