The SABS provides the platform for quality services and products which is the key differentiator in an increasingly competitive environment. The SABS strategic objective contributes to the efficient functioning of the economy by:

Sabs Standards , led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr Blake Mosley-Lefatola, accompanied by Acting Chief Operations Officer Mr Thabo Sepuru and Acting Manager: Stakeholder Relations Ms Mpodi Manaka, recently undertook a strategic working visit to Botswana to engage with Botswana Bureau of Standards - BOBS

The bilateral engagement follows the outcomes of the 6th Session of the South Africaโ€“Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC), which emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation between institutions of the two countries to promote trade, industrial development, and economic growth.

The visit provided an opportunity for Sabs Standards and Botswana Bureau of Standards - BOBS to review existing areas of collaboration and explore new opportunities to expand conformity assessment services. Discussions focused on enhancing Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVOC) services, identifying additional product categories for testing and certification, and leveraging the technical expertise available within both organisations to support regional trade and market access.

As Botswana currently holds the Presidency of the African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO), the engagement also provided an opportunity to discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at advancing the African standardisation agenda and supporting the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat.

The engagement reaffirms Sabs Standards commitment to building strategic partnerships across the continent, strengthening quality infrastructure systems, facilitating trade, and contributing to sustainable economic development in Africa.
