Only three women on Earth know how to make the world’s rarest pasta, su filindeu, which translates to “the threads of God” in Sardo, the closest living form to Latin.

The Abraini family preserves this dying culinary art form in Sardinia’s far-flung interior town of Nuoro, away from the popular beaches and cerulean seas most travellers visit on a trip to southern Italy.

This matriarchal line has prepared the pasta for more than 300 years, closely guarding the secret of how the ultra-thin strands are made and passing it down from mother to daughter. That is, until now, as the family has decided to reveal the secret to save su filindeu from dying out, because younger generations no longer show an interest in pursuing the family tradition.
