Weekend Touring Recap: Gauteng to Tzaneen — 1400km of Scenic Exploration
Over the weekend, we embarked on an unforgettable motorcycle tour, covering approximately 1400 kilometers through some of South Africa’s most striking landscapes.
Friday:
Our journey began in Gauteng, heading toward Botswana. We traveled via Warmbad and Thabazimbi, eventually tackling a challenging 180km stretch of dirt road to reach Limpopo Lodge on the boarder of Botswana. The route offered a first-hand look at the impact of recent heavy rains, with water levels well above the norm in many farming areas—a compelling reminder of nature’s force.
Saturday:
We left the farm early and covered roughly 600km, passing through Haenertsburg and the breathtaking Magoebaskloof region. With no prior accommodation booked, we found a gem—George Valley Lodge. Affordable, welcoming, and perfectly suited for travelers in transit.
Sunday:
A day of local exploration led us to Debengeni Falls, a tranquil site surrounded by lush greenery. We concluded the day at Oppi Oewer in Tzaneen, enjoying a peaceful overnight stay.
Monday:
Our return leg brought the tour full circle. It was a deeply rewarding journey—an opportunity to reconnect with South Africa’s natural beauty and appreciate the diverse terrains our country offers. From scenic mountain passes to rain-soaked farmlands, the experience reminded us why riding is more than just movement—it’s a way of seeing.
