The northern Pondoland section of the Wild Coast, stretching from Msikaba to Port St Johns, is arguably the most rugged and breathtakingly pristine stretch of the coastline. This fully catered Wild Coast Trail offers an authentic experience of unspoiled natural beauty, warm local hospitality, and the cultural richness of the Pondo people.
Overview
Duration: 5 hiking days / 5 nights
Accommodation: Village- and home-based stays (fully catered)
Group size: Minimum 12 – Maximum 24 hikers
On arrival, you will be shuttled to Msikaba, the starting point of the trail, where you will spend your first night before setting out on the hike.
Trail Grading
Fitness: 3/5 – Easy gradients for the first two days with longer daily distances; more hills on days 3 and 4.
Technicality: 2/5 – Limited scrambling, with a few steeper sections for scenic viewpoints.
Trail Terrain
This coastal trail traverses a variety of landscapes – open grasslands, deep forest ravines and gorges, rocky headlands, golden beaches, and traditional Pondo villages.
LAccommodation & Meals
• Accommodation is arranged in comfortable homestays within local villages.
Each stop includes:
• Welcome tea or coffee
• Dinner and breakfast
• Bedding included
You must cater for lunch and snacks.
Bring your own towels.
Logistics & Support
Porters can be arranged at an additional cost per day if you prefer not to carry a heavy backpack.
All river crossings, guiding services, and daily transfers are included.

Day 1: ±14 km – Start from Msikaba, coastal grasslands, and river crossings

Day 3: ±18 km – Rolling hills, forest ravines, and dramatic viewpoints
Day 4: ±16 km – Rocky headlands and pristine beaches
Day 5: ±11 km – Final stretch into Port St Johns
