Each winter, our hillsides and coastal verges burst into brilliant shades of orange and red as indigenous aloes come into flower. Their annual bloom has become one of nature's most beautiful signals that cooler weather has arrived and that the famous sardines are making their way up the coast.

While there's no official calendar for the Sardine Run, many locals keep an eye on the aloes. Once those vibrant flowers appear, excitement starts building because we know one of the greatest marine spectacles in the world is just around the corner.
