TOURISM MONTH - It's time for some adventure! Established in 2019, the Bon Game Reserve is owned and operated by the Oosthuizen family, situated about 15-minutes from Albertinia and a mere 20-minute drive from the iconic Mossel Bay.

The farm is home to different antelope species, including Springbuck, Cape Eland, Burchells Zebra, Kudu, Bushbuck and Sable antelope. The facility exist of 110-hectares, which makes this nature reserve more intimate and private.

The Bon Game farm house is an accommodation facility, with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, indoor braai area and open plan living space. The whirlpool bath on the outside deck overlooks the scenic reserve and riverbank.

The Bon Game farm is the ideal holiday experience as game drives, a mineral bath, restaurant and a Hovercraft experience are also offered to overnight guests and day visitors. In addition, Bon Game Reserve is also the local ParkRun venue, with its first ParkRun hosted on 16 August 2025.

TOURISM MONTH - It's lunch time and our virtual tour takes us to The Roosterkoekhoek at the Aloe Motors Albertinia (Engen).

This venue is the ideal stopover facility when travelling along the N2. Roosterkoek and road trips has been an age-old tradition, with many travellers having the best conversations over a Cheese and Jam version.

The venue offers the most delicious Roosterkoeke within the region and is a highly recommended stopover.

The Aloe Motor Complex is also home to a variety of shops, which includes convenience shops, restaurant, honey shop and a truck stop for all truck drivers to rest at. The convenience shops also sells delicious biltong, which in itself is a classic South African travel favourite.

Make sure you visit Roosterkoekhoek and the Aloe Motors Complex when travelling along the N2 this holiday season.

TOURISM MONTH - Our virtual tour kicks of with a visit to Alcare Aloe (Alcare Aloe's Fan Page) located along the N2 highway in Albertinia.

Alcare Aloe has a proud history within the marvellous Hessequa region, as they were established in 1986 and has over the years continued to innovate and refine their production process. Today, one of the methods they devised is patented and the hallmark of their range remains the consistent high level of plant-based content in the form of top quality Aloe Ferox raw products - bitter and non-bitter.

The percentage of aloe active ingredients in the Alcare Aloe skincare and wellness products is calculated to be up to 80% of the ingredients present in fresh Aloe leaf gel. Alcare Aloe offers a wide range of cosmetic and health products. Aloe is rich in polysaccharides and other plant metabolites, as well as amino acids and minerals, contributing to soft, hydrated and rejuvenated skin.

The factory shop is home to an indigenous garden that features about 17 aloe species and has a kids play area, nursery, boutique wine shop and coffee shop. This facility also has a marvellous reputation of service excellence and is one of the most popular N2 stops for tour groups and tourist exploring the Garden Route.

The giant aloe statue at this facility stands at a staggering height of 9-meters!

HESSEQUA HERITAGE TRAIL RUN - The annual Hessequa Heritage Trail Run and Festival is scheduled for Saturday, 27 September 2025.

This trail run takes runners along a very scenic and challenging 16-kilometer route, along the coast from Jongensfontein to Stilbaai. This route is ideal for runners preparing for half marathons and challenging their personal best times.

The 5-kilometer mini-trail offers an equally scenic route, which is less challenging, and best suited for families and social runners.

TOURISM MONITORS PROGRAMME - The National Department Of Tourism is inviting unemployed youth to apply for the 7-month Tourism Monitors Programme.

This programme is aimed at providing experience to youth with a passion for tourism and assist in ensuring safe tourism spaces. Shortlisted candidates will be subject to a fitness assessment.

The closing date for applications is 3 September 2025.

Tourism Monitors may choose between Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve near Heidelberg and the Hessequa Resorts in Stilbaai and Jongensfontein. Please apply to your nearest facility.

WITSAND - The Hopkins Land parkrun is a weekly free and fun 5-kilometer run with scenic views of the surroundings fauna and flora.
This is a flat gravel route and in winter, the spectacular bright yellow Canola-fields makes for a most memorable experience.

The health benefits of walking, jogging and running is no secrets and is it highly recommended to join and experience of this weekly event in the marvellous coastal town of Witsand.

Parkrun enthusiasts, visitors and locals can follow the The Hopkins Land Parkrun page to stay updated with announcements and information related to this Parkrun.

HESSEQUA HARMONIE - The annual Hessequa Harmonie Festival, hosted in the agricultural town of Heidelberg (Western Cape), is scheduled for 23-27 September 2025.

The Hessequa Harmonie focus on classical music, art and literature, and is one of the marvel events, taking place within the Hessequa region.

The festival programme includes shows by Jak De Priester, Charl du Plessis, Nataniël, Lynelle Kenned, José Dias and Elna van der Merwe.

The Hessequa Art Route will accommodate a variety of art exhibitions and art courses, which has become a standard feature on the festival programme.
