TOURISM MONTH - Thorn and Feather is a self-catering accommodation facility, overlooking the Duivenhoks River, in the village of Vermaaklikheid.

The facility comprises of a series of stone buildings interlinked by well-maintained walkways for uncompromised privacy and togetherness - ensuring an enjoyable family stay.

The facility offers three separate stone cottages, which functions as bedrooms and can accommodate 6 adults and 3 children.

All cottages are equipped with reading lights, fans and outdoor lighting with motion sensors.

The facility also offers a stunning deck, plunge pool and access to the Duivenhoks River.

The village of Vermaaklikheid is located about 40-kilometers from Riversdale, 37-kilometers from Witsand and 35-kilometers from Heidelberg and is regarded as one of the most off-the-beaten-track villages within the Garden Route. This village is home to the Duivenhoks River, which winds down to the historical (and private) Puntjie in Vermaaklikheid.

TOURISM MONTH - Witsand Whale Cliff Accommodation is situated on a cliff in Witsand and offers panoramic views of the ocean - making it the perfect getaway for those who enjoy lazy summer days and sunsets.

The house can accommodate up to 6 adults and 2 children under the age of 12. The house features 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

The main bedroom is furnished with a queen-size bed and an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower. The second bedroom contains 2 single beds, while the third bedroom has 2 single beds and 2 pull-out mattresses. The second bathroom is fitted with a shower.

The open-plan living area features comfortable couches, a TV, a built-in braai, a dining table and a kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and contains a gas stove and oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, cutlery and crockery.

The deck features a wood-fired hot tub with majestic ocean views. Wood is available for purchase, alternatively, guests can bring their own wood.

Whale Cliff Accommodation is the ideal staycation option, especially so during the whale watching season, as the gentle giants can be spotted from the house.

TOURISM MONTH - The Witsand Middle Camp Resort is situated on the eastern end of Witsand, right on the beach and offers amazing fishing opportunities from the sand as well as from the rocks. The Witsand Middle Camp Resort offers travellers 51 camping plots. The Camping and Caravan Park has almost no shading and is unfortunately not pet friendly.

The Witsand Middle Camp Resort also has well-maintained and clean ablution facilities and grounds, which is tailored towards families with children.

The Witsand Middle Camp Resort is now per friendly during the low season.

Close to the resort is a little tidal pool for swimming and the swimming beach is also within walking distance. The tidal pool is the ideal family friendly feature for little adventurers.

Witsand also offers travellers a selection of family friendly walking trails, the majestic Breede River, Stand-Up Paddle Boarding facilities and unique historical buildings like the Barry Memorial – which is arguably the most photographed building within the Hessequa area.

TOURISM MONTH - The Witsand Nature Reserve is one of the towns best kept secrets and covers five short walking trails with exceptional views of the Breede River. The nature reserve trails allow visitors to enjoy the natural beauty and fynbos diversity of this region.

The Grysbok Route is the longest trail covering a distance of with 1.1-kilometers. This trail is a loop, ideally suited for the visitor wanting to relax the mind and rejuvenating the soul.

Nick's Trail is a 0.7-kilometer trail, which links up with the Gysbok Trail. The Riviers Edge Route is a 0.5-kilometer trail with stunning views of the river and wildlife.

Walking in a nature reserve is a powerful way to improve your physical, emotional and mental health, allowing you to get into a good space. This nature reserve is an open access facility and visitors are reminded to stay on the marked trails.

The restaurant is famous for its mouthwatering seafood, ice cold drinks and excellent service. The restaurant also has a rooftop bar which offers you the best view of the Indian Ocean. TOURISM MONTH - The annual Hessequa Harmonie Festival, hosted in the agricultural town of Heidelberg (Western Cape), is scheduled for 22-26 September 2026.

The Hessequa Harmonie focus on classical music, art and literature, and is one of the marvel events, taking place within the Hessequa region.

The 2026 festival programme includes shows and performances by Rocco de Villiers, Lynelle Kenned, Andre Schwartz, Lee-ann van Rooi and Elna van der Merwe.

The opening concert will be hosted on Tuesday, 22 September 2026 at the Heidelberg Town Hall, starting at 19h00, while on Wednesday, 23 September 2026 a Night Market will be hosted at the Heidelberg Dutch Reformed Church from 16h00 until 20h30.
