SNOWFALL RESPONSE PLAN UPDATE 2 AT 12h00 : The MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, has received a report from the RTI and has announced the following:-_

● R617 remains closed. Motorists wishing to travel to or from Kokstad using the route between Swartberg and Underberg must not come near the R617 because the cut-off-low pressure system has triggered heavy snowfall.

● Motorists can use the R56.

● Kokstad towards Matatiele is wet and motorists are requested to reduce speed and keep to the recommended following distance.

● N2 - Kokstad towards Beestekraal is slippery due to the light snowfall.

● N2 towards EC (Brooksnek) is wet with snowfall continuing.

● N3 - Mooi River towards Midway is wet and it is drizzling.

● Snow chasers are prohibited and motorists are requested to delay their trips.

🚨 *URGENT TRAFFIC ADVISORY | N6 ROAD CLOSURE*

MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO TAKE NOTE

The N6 between Kimber Bridge and Penhoek Pass is NOW CLOSED due to hazardous road conditions caused by heavy snowfall.

Provincial Traffic reports that snow has accumulated on the roadway, making the surface extremely slippery and unsafe for motorists.

⚠️ A vehicle has slipped and overturned near Penhoek Pass. Fortunately, *no injuries or entrapments have been reported.*

🚧 *ROAD STATUS: CLOSED*
📍 Route: N6-4
📍 Section: Between Kimber Bridge and Penhoek Pass
🕓 Closure: Effective immediately
🌨️ Cause: Snowfall and dangerous, slippery road conditions

Motorists are strongly advised not to attempt to use the affected section and to follow the instructions of Provincial Traffic officials.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and use alternative routes where possible.

Breaking news

We have completed the emergency repairs as prescribed. After the inspection this afternoon by SANRAL and the professional team, we will be reopening the Huguenot Tunnel and Toll Plaza at 06:00am on Thursday 09 October 2025. I am happy to report that all the systems are tested and working well.
