UNASWERED QUESTIONS – PENDORING CROSSING
Residents of Rustenburg have been asking questions regarding the anticipated repair/upgrade of the Pendoring low-lying bridge (aslo kwown as the Pendoring Crossing) for some time.
According to information obtained by MyRTB through official Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) documents, funding was provided for the upgrading of the Pendoring Crossing, as follows:
* In the 2024/25 financial year R1,268,566 was allocated to the upkeep of the bridge (An RLM financial report also reflects that lists the Pendoring Crossing with a 2024/25 full-year budget of R1,268,566, with the year-to-date actual shown as R0 in that report.)
* In the 2025/26 financial year R2,416,267 was allocated to the upkeep of the bridge
* There is also older RLM documentation showing R2.2 million allocated for the upgrading of the Pendoring Road Crossing in the 2023/24 financial year
Important: These documents do NOT, by themselves, prove that money was misused or that anyone acted unlawfully. However, the question residents are entitled to ask is: What happened to the money allocated for the Pendoring Crossing, what procurement was done, who was appointed (if anyone), how much has actually been spent, and when will the bridge be completed?
Residents have the right to ask for transparency and accountability from Rustenburg Local Municipality.
