Tensions in Rustenburg appear to be reaching a boiling point as residents grow increasingly frustrated with the ongoing crisis in the city.
Earlier this week, a municipal council sitting descended into chaos amid disruptions and allegations of assault, raising serious concerns about stability within the Rustenburg Local Municipality leadership.
At the same time, large parts of the city have been left in the dark, with nearly half of Rustenburg experiencing electricity outages for most of the week. Water disruptions have further compounded the situation, leaving residents with more questions than answers.
In a video circulating online, protesters can be seen burning tyres at the corner of Ridder and Mbeki Street late last night, highlighting the growing anger on the ground.
As frustration mounts, residents are demanding accountability and clarity from the management of the Rustenburg Local Municipality — and many believe those answers cannot come soon enough.
