Tailor Made Safaris

Tailor Made Safaris Your tailor-made dream trip to South Africa, crafted by people who live and work there! And all of that less than two hours drive from each other.

The northern part of the KwaZulu-Natal province is a paradise for the nature and culture loving traveller. It is here that one finds not only savanna with the famous Big-5 and other animals, but also forests, beaches, lakes, estuaries, wetlands and of course the sub-tropical Indian Ocean. Where else can one kayak amongst hippos and crocodiles, watch turtles lay eggs, see whales breach, swim with d

olphins and whale sharks, scuba dive amazing coral reefs, embark on a walking safari with an armed ranger, take photos on game drives, enjoy the beach, or get eye to eye with cheetahs and elephants at an animal rehabilitation centre? Moreover, the climate here is lovely and the region practically malaria free! We regard ourselves as experts when it comes to create tours to northern KwaZulu-Natal. Contrary to other travel agents, we actually do really live here ourselves and can genuinely call ourselves specialists of the region. In addition, all our tours are created in such a way that one will really 'experience' South Africa rather than just cruise through South Africa 'sight seeing'. To achieve this, we give our guests/clients extensive information packs about the destinations, limit travel times between destinations to about 2 hours max, and have them stay for more than one day at destinations, in order to get a genuine experience. Lastly, all our guided tours are not led by a generic tour guide, but by a professional and highly qualified safari guide or biologist. Our travel products include self drive safaris, guided safaris or a combination thereof. In addition we focus on photographic safaris, where we can include gear rental and photographic workshops/lessons if so desired. Visit our website www.tailormadesafaris.co.za or drop us an email at [email protected]. We would love to help you create the safari of a lifetime!

Elephant buffalo standoff!
In his free time Nick is part of the Honorary Rangers and whilst out on a trip with the honorary rangers he saw this awesome sighting of an elephant trying to scare a buffalo away. However the buffalo was not impressed and stood its ground! Quite a brave buffalo is you ask me. Elephants generally don't like to share their water and often when they come to a water hole or river scare the other remaining animals away.

Tailor Made Safaris put together the perfect trip for us. We wanted to experience everything—and we truly did. The journey exceeded all expectations. For three weeks, we went from one moment of amazement to the next. Driving ourselves worked perfectly, and the contact via the app was very pleasant and reassuring.

The entire trip—from start to finish—was clearly laid out in a well-organised travel book with all the necessary information. We can look back on a wonderful holiday in South Africa.

Geert, Angela, and the entire team: thank you very much.

Today our travellers experienced some elephant road blocks in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. When you encounter elephants blocking the road there is no other option but wait till they move back into the bushes on their own account. Lovely sighting if you're not in a hurry 😉

A fantastic review:
We were introduced to Safari's op Maat through acquaintances, and we haven't regretted it for a moment. From the very first contact, everything was personal, professional, and incredibly pleasant. Angela listened carefully to our wishes and translated them perfectly into a clear and concise digital travel proposal, complete with beautiful images and detailed explanations. That alone created a huge sense of anticipation.

After booking our flights, absolutely everything was arranged for us: car rental, accommodations, and activities. Everything was perfect down to the last detail. The handy app with the day-to-day itinerary was ideal and even fun to share with friends and family.

The trip itself was unforgettable. South Africa is a beautiful country with friendly people. We stayed in the KwaZulu-Natal region, and the lodges we chose were all clean, charming, beautifully situated, and very varied. The travel distances were comfortable and well-coordinated.

The additional activities, such as game drives, snorkeling, cycling in Soweto, and boat trips, were also perfectly organized and made the trip truly complete. The personal contact and short lines of communication made a huge difference compared to impersonal travel agencies.

In short: a fantastically organized trip without any worries. Tailor-Made Safaris – and especially Angela – is highly recommended in our opinion!

Wow, that was a special experience! Our travellers were very lucky and got to witness the release of this cheetah into Manyoni Game Reserve. Cheetahs are critically endangered and therefore efforts like these are very important to keep the genes in the population healthy. A very special experience to witness indeed!

Did you know that South Africa is one of the places in the world to see rhinos??

South Africa holds roughly 70–80% of the world's remaining rhinos, predominantly white rhinos, but also black rhinos. Unfortunately poaching remains a big problem for rhinos.
Rhino poaching has been steadily increasing as demand for rhino horn in Vietnam and China continues to grow. It is mainly used in traditional medicine and as a status symbol. Ironically rhino horn is made from the same material as your fingernails and hair, keratin. But it is still highly sought after. Poachers usually don't operate on their own but as part of a well organised syndicate. A big problem with tackling the poaching is corruption within ranger and law enforcement ranks. To make the rhinos less prone to poaching rangers have dehorned many of the rhinos in most of the reserves in South Africa and therefore it has now become more rare to see rhinos with a fully grown horn when on safari. By visiting the parks that are still acting as a strongholds for these rhinos you're putting money towards the conservation of these beautiful animals, a cause we greatly support.

On your safari you can encounter many large and smaller animals, including the Vervet Monkey! Watching monkeys is always fun because you can see many human traits in them and there is always something interesting to observe. But be careful not to leave your food unattended, because these little monkeys will easily get to it before you do! An open window is also an invitation for them to check out what is being served inside, so do be careful with cars and accommodation — otherwise you might find they've helped themselves to everything.
