SURVEY | CIAN 2024 Survey Results: Business Sentiment in a Growing Africa

Africa’s economic momentum remains a standout on the global stage. According to the African Development Bank (AfDB), the continent’s real GDP is projected to grow by 3.7% in 2024 and 4.3% in 2025, recovering from a slowdown to 3.1% in 2023.

With 40 African countries expected to achieve higher growth rates than the previous year, the continent remains the world’s second-fastest-growing region.

However, these promising figures tell only part of the story. The reality on the ground differs from country to country and sector to sector, and raises key questions:
How are these macroeconomic trends perceived by businesses operating across Africa?
Do companies see this growth reflected in their day-to-day operations?
What progress and challenges have marked the business climate in 2024?
These are the questions at the heart of the 2024 CIAN Barometer, the annual survey led by the French Council of Investors in Africa (CIAN).

ANALYSIS | No Claim? No Problem. Rethinking Creditor Rights in Insolvency Law

A recent judgment handed down in the Johannesburg High Court in Single Destination Engineering (Pty) Ltd and Another v Van Den Heever N.O. and Others (14 April 2025) has brought both clarity and controversy to the question of who qualifies as a "creditor" entitled to inspect the books of a company in liquidation under section 360(1) of the Companies Act 61 of 1973 (as preserved by item 9 of Schedule 5 to the Companies Act 71 of 2008) ("the Act"). The court's answer may reshape creditor participation and redefine transparency obligations in the insolvency landscape.

Back To | FSACCI Attends Exclusive Heartbeat Session Hosted by Forvis Mazars

On Thursday evening, 3 July 2025, the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) attended an exclusive Heartbeat Session hosted by platinum member Forvis Mazars in South Africa.

The event brought together FSACCI members Air France, Groupe Clarins, and Alliance Française of Johannesburg, in collaboration with Heartbeat Sessions and Artistry.

Designed as a focused networking experience, the session offered a relaxed space for professionals to connect and exchange ideas.

The evening began with a networking session where guests engaged in informal conversations around business, culture, and collaboration. It created an opportunity to strengthen ties across sectors and expand professional networks.

The event also featured a live performance by COURUS, a singer, songwriter, and musician, joined by a live band. The performance added a creative element to the evening and encouraged further engagement among attendees.

This Heartbeat Session reflects FSACCI’s ongoing support for events that connect business with culture and strengthen member relations. FSACCI thanks Forvis Mazars for hosting and acknowledges the contributions of all event collaborators.

Did you know that disability affects 1 in 6 people worldwide?

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), over 1 billion people globally live with some form of disability, yet disability inclusion remains one of the most overlooked areas in corporate diversity strategies.

From inaccessible workplaces to unconscious bias in hiring, people with disabilities continue to face systemic barriers that limit their participation in the workforce. And it is not just about physical access, it is about representation, understanding, and intentional inclusion.

Inclusive practices do not just benefit individuals with disabilities; they foster a stronger, more innovative, and more equitable workplace for all.

At the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI), we believe real inclusion means everyone has a seat at the table. That is why we are hosting a DEI Roundtable on Disability & Inclusion, where we will engage with experts, members, and advocates to explore practical, forward-thinking strategies for building more inclusive professional environments.

Let us go beyond compliance and create spaces where ability is not the exception, but part of the norm. For more news, check us out here: https://www.fsacci.com/news/news-diversity.html

Celebrating Mandela Month: Business with Purpose

Each July, South Africans and partners around the world come together to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela, a leader whose life was dedicated to justice, equality, and service. On the 18th of July, people worldwide give 67 minutes to do good: one minute for each year Nelson Mandela dedicated to the fight for justice.

At the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI), Mandela Month is more than a date on the calendar. It’s an opportunity to turn our values into action by connecting businesses with meaningful initiatives that give back. This year, we are proud to host Mandela Day team-building events in partnership with SPCA Sandton in Johannesburg https://www.fsacci.com/events/upcoming-events/e/event/nelson-mandela-day-2025.html and with Zip Zap Academy in Cape Town https://www.fsacci.com/events/upcoming-events/e/event/cape-town-mandela-day.html.

Mandela once said, “It is in your hands to make a better world for all who live in it.” So let’s continue to build that world, one small action at a time.
