MAPUTO, 22 NOVEMBER 2024 – Mozambique’s tourism sector has provided updated guidance for travellers ahead of the festive season, emphasising the safety and operational readiness of its popular destinations while offering practical advice to ensure a seamless travel experience.
While localised protests have occurred in urban areas such as Maputo and Matola Province, these remain concentrated and have not disrupted major tourist destinations. Many areas, including Inhambane, Vilanculo, and Ponta do Ouro, are unaffected and continue to operate as usual. Airports, major roads, and border crossings, including Ressano Garcia, are open and accessible.
The nature of demonstrations has evolved to include peaceful symbolic actions, such as wearing black, honking horns, and banging pots during specific times, further reducing the impact on travellers.
Travellers are encouraged to use the following guidance to ensure an informed and enjoyable journey:
• Localised impact: Protests are largely confined to specific urban areas, and there have been no reports of violence involving tourists or their vehicles.
• Reliable updates: Use trusted channels such as your travel supplier for real-time updates on road and travel conditions.
• Movement restrictions: While there are no nationwide curfews, local authorities may impose temporary restrictions in response to protests. Check with your travel supplier before embarking on your journey.
Tourism remains a cornerstone of Mozambique’s economy and the livelihoods of its communities. Local businesses, from artisans to hospitality providers, continue to welcome visitors warmly and are prepared to provide exceptional experiences.
