Whether it’s the media crew charging camera batteries, drones and phones on the go, or guests powering up their fridges and devices when the vehicles are off – this compact unit handles it all. It’s even stepped in to run power tools when needed.

Golden hour on the granite mounds outside Kamieskroon

While the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in unreal colours, the crew takes a breather and recharges our gear with the Jackery power station. Kamieskroon never disappoints when it comes to sunsets!

After soaking it all in, we make our way down to our stay for the night at Okiep Country Lodge. But the day’s not done yet — time for some last-minute repairs and vehicle checks before we call it a night.

Motivation Monday

We recently took the Cape Route Rally spirit to Europe, ticking off three of the most iconic international racetracks: Nürburgring, Spa-Francorchamps, and Zandvoort 🇩🇪🇧🇪🇳🇱

“Cars and copters… who thought I’d be saying those words as I have to chase a helicopter to our next destination?” – Anthony.

During the Cape Route Rally: Road Edition, we raced to Birkenhead before Justin from could land—and what a sight it was. A helicopter touching down surrounded by collectibles, all in one place. A truly unique moment, and an epic way to wrap up the day before heading to our next stop.

How do we at the Cape Route Rally celebrate conquering a massive granite mountain?

With a proper sunset coffee at the top, of course. After a steep and grippy climb near Kamieskroon, only four vehicles made it to the summit—and they brewed a victory cup right on top of the world. The rest of us watched the sun dip below the horizon from below, soaking in the view before continuing our journey deeper into the Northern Cape.

Join us for the 4X4 Krakeel Challenge, taking place from August 13th to 17th. Prepare for an off-road adventure like no other!

Set in the rough and untamed landscapes of Krakeel, this Cape Route Rally event will push both man and machine to their limits. Expect rocky climbs, deep river crossings, and technical sections that demand precision and power.

Conquering New Heights!

We’ve now set out to conquer the third granite mound on the Cape Route Rally. This one’s steeper than the last two and has no clear track to the top. Some of the crew decided to stay at the bottom, while the rest of us are attempting to make a way where there isn’t one. The local farmer once tried this climb but didn’t make it—so today’s mission is to see if we can be the first to reach the summit.

Granite Mound #2: Conquered!

Just outside Kamieskroon, we took on the second granite giant — and what a climb it was!

The first section warmed us up with a steep but manageable ascent… but the second rock? That one really tested our grip and gears.

Every vehicle made it to the top — a proud moment for the crew! This peak is actually a well-known lookout point where the farmer hosts guests on his private land, and the views didn’t disappoint. Panoramic Northern Cape beauty as far as the eye can see.

But the real challenge still lies ahead… The third granite rock, a beast no one has fully conquered before. We’re heading out to change that. Let’s see if we can find a line to the top.
