You head out looking for sharks and then THIS happens...

A humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) surfaced right next to the boat, giving our guests a front-row seat to one of the ocean's true giants.

We are not permitted to approach whales, so encounters like this are entirely on their terms. Today, this whale chose us!!

From June to November, humpback whales migrate along the South African coastline between their Antarctic feeding grounds and warmer breeding waters further north. During this time, False Bay comes alive with marine life, offering opportunities to encounter whales, sharks, dolphins, seals, and seabirds.

We’re also fortunate to occasionally see Southern Right Whales and Bryde’s Whales in our waters, making every trip a unique ocean adventure.

Today we celebrate the remarkable sea turtles that have navigated our oceans for more than 100 million years. These ancient mariners play an important role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems, yet many species face threats from pollution, habitat loss, climate change, and accidental entanglement in fishing gear.

At Apex Shark Expeditions, we are passionate about raising awareness of marine conservation and protecting the incredible biodiversity of our oceans. Every encounter with marine wildlife serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding these ecosystems for future generations.

There’s something special about winter in False Bay.
From the rugged beauty of Seal Island, home to thousands of Cape fur seals, to the possibility of encountering sharks, dolphins, and whales, every trip is an unforgettable ocean adventure.

Although winter days can be chilly on the water, dressing in warm layers will keep you comfortable on board. Guests entering the cage are fully equipped with a 5 mm wetsuit, boots, mask, and weight belt, allowing them to experience the magic of False Bay’s marine world from a whole new perspective.
