Our first student adventure after COVID took us to Portugal and Spain in 2022—slow mornings, time on the beach, and unforgettable sights. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and exploration, and a reminder of how good it felt to be back out in the world together.

And we are heading back in 2027! I loved this itinerary so much that it is the first time I have repeated a trip!

Check the link the the bio to RSVP for the interest meeting.

Here is a dump of photos from Kruger. We saw Elephants, Giraffes, Leopards, Cape Buffalo, Impala, Kudu, Wildebeest, Warthogs, and many other animals.

In two trips to South Africa, I’ve never been this close to lions. Watching these massive, majestic animals move through their natural habitat was absolutely surreal.

The sheer power they exude, even while resting, is something i felt to my core. It’s one thing to see lions in a zoo… it’s something entirely different to lock eyes with one in the wild. (Stayed tuned for some of the other animals we encountered).

After leaving Cape Town, we traveled to Johannesburg and toured the Soweto Township - one of the areas where Black South Africans were forced to live under apartheid.

We visited the Hector Pieterson Museum, Nelson Mandela’s home, and the Apartheid Museum. These were powerful stops that brought South Africa’s painful history into sharp focus.

Hearing the story of 12-year-old Hector, who was shot by police during the 1976 student uprising, was especially heavy. It was a sobering day, and a reminder of the deep scars left by injustice and the strength of those who fought to overcome it.

After exploring Cape Town, we made our way to the Cape of Good Hope - the landmark Bartolomeu Dias reached on his attempt to sail around Africa. Standing there, it’s easy to see why this place has captivated travelers for centuries.

The coastal drive alone is stunning, with white sand beaches and rugged mountains at every turn. We ended the day at Boulders Beach, where a colony of African penguins stole the show

June 2008 - I hopped on a plane and flew to South Africa for what I thought would be a once-in-a-lifetime trip. I had no idea I’d be back in 2011 for a month-long stay… and now here I am again in 2025, nearly 15 years later, standing at the top of Table Mountain and wandering through the beauty of the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

I fell in love with this country all those years ago, and each time I return, it feels like a homecoming.

What I didn’t realize back then was how these early trips would spark something bigger, a passion that led me to one of the most rewarding professional decisions of my career: traveling with and giving students the same chance to explore the world that changed mine. I’ve had the opportunity to take over 200 students on trips around the world - and I can’t wait for that next adventure.

I haven’t finished up my posts from our trip - so here are some pictures from our stop in Krakow. We walked around the city and visited the Salt Mines - only a small portion are open to the public but it was really cool!

This was a tough, eye-opening day. Visiting Auschwitz-Birkenau brought a new weight to what I’ve studied and taught for years. Nothing prepared me for the sheer size of this place.

Over 1.1 million Jews were murdered here, many days seeing thousands killed just because of their faith. Standing where it happened makes it painfully clear: the impact of this place, and the people who were lost, must never be forgotten.
