SPOTLIGHT ON: LIANSHULU LODGE
The Lianshulu Lodge is located in the Mudumu National Park of Namibia’s Zambezi Region (the former Caprivi Strip), on the banks of the Kwando River. The lodge is nestled beneath a canopy of Jackalberry and Mangosteen trees.
Lianshulu Lodge has 11 wood-and-thatch chalets and a maximum of 24 guests can be accommodated. All chalets are furnished. The bedrooms are equipped with mosquito nets, insect repellent and there’s an adjacent en-suite shower room. Three of the bungalows have baths as well as an indoor and an outdoor shower.
The dining area, lounge, bar, library and curio shop open out onto spacious split-level wooden decks, giving the visitor a sweeping view over the Lianshulu Lagoon. This gives the avid photographer quite a vantage point. The lodge also has a swimming pool.
Facilities: combination of generator and solar energy; phone signal & Wi-Fi in main area; disabled-access on request; laundry service. There are NO TV and radio service.
The Mudumu National Park has an abundant amount of wildlife, including buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and waterbuck. Elephant and hippo in particular can be found in great numbers. Predators are sometimes encountered, and around 400 bird species have been recorded in the eastern Zambezi Region. Crocodiles and fish such as bream, tigerfish and catfish can be seen from the lodge deck.
Activities: nature drives, boat & sunset cruises, birdwatching, trips to the Lizauli Village. Game viewing in Mudumu National Park is best between July and October.
The staff and management are concerned about environmental education and promote wildlife conservation in is broadest sense, in order to create direct economic and social benefits to local communities. They were involved in setting up Lizauli Traditional Village that takes in hundreds of visitors from the surrounding lodges and directly benefits the local community.
There is an airstrip 5 minutes away for the exclusive use of Lianshulu’s visitors. To facilitate easy access to Botswana, Lianshulu Lodge can be used as a border crossing to Botswana by boat, but only for it's guests.
