Tommy's Living Desert Tours in Sakopmund is an adventure not to be missed. I went on a tour this morning and discovered the magnificent beauty of the desert. The very knowledgeable guide operates as if he can see under the sand. It sometimes looks as if he just puts his hand in the sand and finds a living creature. We saw a variety of geckos, other reptiles such as a desert chameleon, and even a sidewinder or desert viper. Don’t touch any of these if you don’t know what to do. Driving in the dunes was also a great adventure.

Desert Knights Cycling Tour in Southern Namibia
On 10 September, the Desert Knights cycling tour started at Hobas on the rim of the Fish River Canyon in southern Namibia. The cycling shifts are mostly in the evening and during the night. This is to reduce the stress of cycling in the desert heat. Cycling in the moonlight is a challenging, but wonderful experience for the participants. The tour ends on 16 September at Sendelingsdrift in South Africa. The tour includes a day of canoeing on the Orange River. The stark and beautiful Ai-Ais Richtersveld Transfrontier Park is an incredible backdrop to this 280 km cycling event.

Upgrading roads in Etosha National Park
A dedicated team is in the process of repairing and grading the roads in the Etosha National Park. This project is long overdue as there have been many complaints from visitors driving through the Etosha. The team intends to grade almost 100 km of roads in shifts at night when there is no traffic and there will therefore be less disturbance to tourists. The project is already in full swing and the results have already brought much relief to the many daily visitors passing through this world-renown National Park with its magnificent salt pans and wealth of wildlife.
