Started the day with a visit to Oranjezicht City Farm and Market Day followed by a cooking class and lunch in the Bo Kaap with Faeeza's Home Kitchen and finally some cheese and wine with lovely views Beau Constantia

Wow what an excellent meal, inspired by some amazing Kloovenburg Wine and Olive Estate products we purchased on a recent visit to the Swartland Wine & Olive Route

Mediterranean Olive chicken on Penne pasta done in a cast iron wok on the fire! 🔥
So many stunning flavors.

Chicken from Sousie

Step 1: Marinade chicken in lemon juice, lemon zest, olive oil, origanum, black and green olives and olive caviar.
Step 2: Brown chicken on fire in cast iron wok (or potjie). This can also be done on the stove, but a fire is always best.
Step 3: set aside browned chicken.
Step 4: pan fry onions and red pepper in same pan.
Step 5: add chicken back to pan with marinade with all the olives, olive oil and caviar.
Step 6: Deglaze pan with Kloovenburg Sauvignon Blanc
Step 7: Add tin of tomatoes and simmer for +-45 minutes
step 8: sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley and basil.
step 9: Serve on a bed of Penne pasta.

It’s the best time of the year to see the Southern Right Whales in South Africa!
The whales are visiting our shores for a few months, on their annual migration.

The best place to see the whales is Hermanus, only one hour’s drive from Cape Town. You can even join a whale watching boat trip with a Fair Trade Tourism certified operator.

One of the best things about South Africa is a braai (bbq), and the best braais are done outside. We took a short drive along the coast to enjoy our lunch on the beach. Sunny winter days in the Cape are wonderful!

An afternoon walk in the gardens at Vergelegen Wines is the perfect way to end a day in the Helderberg.

The gardens are immaculate and very elaborate including wetlands, 10km of river, a yellowwood walk and a forest. Some of the specimens around the main buildings have been alive for more than 300 years! In fact, Vergelegen is home to the oldest living exotic tree in South Africa - an Oak tree dating back to 1706.

We love exploring and finding new awesome experiences in our area. Lucky us that we live in the winelands 😉
