Let their imagination fly ✨🌿

A walk in nature becomes something magical when seen through a child’s eyes. At Phillipskop, every trail can turn into a new adventure.

Guards! Stand tall and keep watch for danger from the rocky lookout points…

Dragon riders! Climb aboard your mighty steed and soar through the mountain breeze on a wild adventure…

Treasure hunters! Keep your eyes peeled — there’s unexpected treasure around every turn, from feathers and flowers to curious tracks and hidden wonders…

Here, hiking is never just a walk. It’s a chance for children to explore, imagine and discover the joy of the outdoors. And for parents, it’s the gift of watching screens forgotten, energy spent, and memories being made together.

Bring the family to Phillipskop and let adventure lead the way. 👣💛

Cosy winter moments 🔥

Snuggle up with a good book, and enjoy the warmth inside whilst still soaking in the mountain views outside.

Ease into slow winter mornings reading in bed, with birds flitting through the fynbos just beyond the windows. Watch the clouds roll over the peaks, enjoy the winter rain as it drifts through the fynbos, and settle into the comfort of a slow evening by the fire.

At Phillipskop, you don’t even need to step outside to feel immersed in nature.

Peaceful surroundings, sweeping views and cosy evenings — the perfect recipe for a winter escape. ✨

June flower of the month: Oxalis 🌸

Twirling petals rejoicing in the sunlight.

As you walk Phillipskop’s paths at this time of year, you can’t help but notice the yellow and purple splashes of colour – like jewels scattered along the trails.

Although there are many different species, Oxalis flowers are easily recognised by their five overlapping petals and three leaflets radiating from a central point. The flowers open up on sunny days, delighting in the winter warmth, but even when closed, the twisted buds are very pretty.

It was at this time of year that we named the first chalet we renovated on the reserve – so it’s no surprise that it became Oxalis chalet.

🤝 Stronger together 🌿

Phillipskop is proud to be a Partner Organisation of A Rocha South Africa — a Christian conservation organisation that equips, motivates and mobilises people to care for God’s creation through practical action, community projects and environmental stewardship.

Partnerships like these remind us that caring for the natural world is something we do together. At Phillipskop, conservation is about more than protecting landscapes — it’s also about fostering a deeper appreciation for the beauty and biodiversity of creation, and recognising the interconnectedness of all things. Caring for creation is an important part of caring for one another and for future generations.

We’re excited to be joining the upcoming A Rocha AGM, where we’ll be sharing more about the conservation work of Phillipskop – from protecting fynbos biodiversity to creating opportunities for people to connect with nature and better understand both the importance of healthy ecosystems and our shared responsibility to care for them.

Whether through practical action, education or research – or simply spending time outdoors and choosing your vacation destinations wisely – every person has a role to play in caring for the natural world.

Together, we can make a difference. 🌱

We love misty mornings...

The stillness, the beauty, and the quiet promise of the sun rising to lift the mist and warm the day.

And on special mornings, you can climb above the clouds and look down on a sea of mist, bathed in golden light.

Start your day in peaceful tranquillity at Phillipskop Eco-Chalets. ✨

🦉 New owl camera!

At Phillipskop, we share the landscape with many other species. Barn owls have been resident here, since our arrival in 2014, returning each year to rear their young.

We often catch glimpses of them in flight and hear their eerie calls, but until now, we’ve never been able to see what’s happening inside their nest box.

That’s just changed. We’ve installed a camera to give us a rare window into life inside the nest...

We weren’t sure whether the unfamiliar camera might deter the owls from returning. Here’s proof that it hasn’t - but this owl seems quite curious about the camera!

Watch this space for updates and the privilege of a closer look into the private lives of our Phillipskop barn owls.

🪷 The Lily Pond: A hidden gem waiting to be discovered

Just a short stroll from Phillipskop Eco-Chalets, tucked quietly into the landscape, you’ll find the Lily Pond — one of those peaceful places that invites you to slow down and simply take it all in.

Spend a while beside the water and you’ll soon discover that this little wetland is full of life. Listen to the chorus of frogs calling from the reeds, watch dragonflies dart across the surface, and enjoy the ever-changing birdsong echoing through the surrounding fynbos. On still days, the reflections on the water and the quiet beauty of the setting make it feel truly magical.

Whether you’re enjoying a gentle morning walk, a peaceful afternoon pause, or a nature-filled adventure with the kids, the Lily Pond is a special spot to reconnect with the rhythms of nature.

Bring your binoculars, your camera, or simply come for a moment of stillness — and discover one of Phillipskop’s hidden treasures. ✨

🐝 World Bee Day

From flower to hive, bees play a vital role in maintaining the health and diversity of the landscape.

At Phillipskop, they pollinate the fynbos that cover the mountain slopes, and in doing so, produce the rich, fragrant honey found on the reserve.

This honey is more than just something to enjoy -
It's a small expression of a much larger, living system.

Fynbos honey is available at Phillipskop reception. 🌿🍯

🤝 A weekend for men to get together...

What a special weekend of fellowship, encouragement, and connection. It was a privilege to host the first Christ Church Hermanus Men’s Retreat: a group of guys gathering together to grow in faith, enjoy meaningful conversation, and build lasting friendships.

From insightful Bible teaching and honest discussions, to laughter shared over good food and time spent exploring nature on the hiking trails, the weekend was filled with moments of encouragement and “iron sharpening iron”.

There’s something deeply valuable about stepping out of the busyness of life to spend time away together — reflecting, learning, and strengthening one another. 💪

Thank you to everyone who joined and helped make the weekend so memorable.
